Best KPortal Reviews
This place is a real hidden gem in Preston. They specialise in Sicilian cuisine. The staff were very friendly, accommodating and made sure we were happy with our meal. For starters we had this aubergine and cocoa dish. It was certainly different! A cold starter with marinated aubergines in a vinegar sauce with pickled onions, capers and olives. It was very delicious and a good portion too! For mains I had the cacio e Pepe, one of my favourites! And it didn't disappoint! Very tasty and cheesy just the way I like it. My only criticism is that it could have been served on a plate/bowl rather than a slate as it was hard to eat off of. We also ordered the very traditional alla norma, however we were quite disappointed with this dish. It was a small portion with a basic tomato sauce, and a few dots of aubergine purée. I've had far better alla norma than this, where I had a rich aubergine tomato sauce with actual pieces of aubergine. We also found the pasta very al dente, almost raw. We respect that Italians and Sicilians prefer the pasta this way but we like ours to be fully cooked so we don't end up with an upset stomach! They did offer to cook it further. For dessert we got an almond semi freddo with a chocolate sauce. This was absolutely divine! Overall I would come here again to try the other dishes, it does seem very authentic and my pasta dish was excellent despite the alla norma disappointment. But next time I will make sure to ask for my pasta to be fully cooked! It's quite a small place so if you want to try some Sicilian food, make sure to book in advance.
A real taste of Sicily. Our favourite Italian restaurant in the UK. Hidden gem in Penwortham, tell your friends. Thanks Alessandro and Roberto!
Very over priced for some foods and very little on the plate for what you paid. We had to change our order a few times because they "ran out" of certain foods. Disappointed with that.
Very cold and draughty round the back by the windows making it a bit uncomfortable.
We had fantastic company which made the night but wouldn't rush back I'm afraid. Although, despite Very small portions (apart from the pizzas), the food was tasty.
Despite booking online, we arrived at Pane e Vino to find it closed - and seems to have been closed for some weeks or months. A notice in the window said it would be opening or re-opening soon. Best to check with the restaurant directly if you were thinking of eating there, although their phone number "was not recognised" when we tried. Don't trust online booking, especially through an agent with a California address! Fortunately, we found an excellent restaurant called Salvatore's not far away, so our evening was not wasted.
Nice to eat but sometimes they're not always open even if you book a table at a certain time you want and you turn up to find the place is closed...
Superb Italian food at a very reasonable price in Penwortham, especially with the 2 or 3 course deal. The service is always extremely friendly.
Lovely food, friendly staff. Teally enjoyed the mushrooms and Lasagne.
Wonderful food and really friendly service. We popped in without booking quite early on a Saturday eve - maybe 5.30. No issues getting a table. Pizzas and pasta lovely. Great service and not pricey. We'll be back.
