Gets 5 stars as only place in corwen I could get a pint on a Tuesday. Harp and oak shut and crown is residents only now! One ale on and had a fire going. Friendly woman behind the bar!
An absolute dump. Whoever has reviewed this place higher than a 2 must be related to the owners. The place is disgusting, filthy and massively overpriced.||||There was awful smell (damp I believe) in our room which was so powerful it actually overwhelmed the stale smoke smell. Stained walls and ceiling, scruffy carpets, even awful beer, etc. If someone travelled forwards in time from the 70's they would think they had gone backwards. ||Have a look at the sanitary bag photo attached. It must be an antique. This matched the rest of the 'hotel'. The reviews on 'Booking.com' (7.4 average) are definitely not genuine. ||Have a close look for your self. ||DO NOT STAY HERE
Nice place, steeped in history. If you can see passed the fact it backs on to a graveyard and is in the top 5 most haunted hotels in Wales, you will sleep well ???? Food is really good from a classic pub grub menu, all home cooked to order.
Would like to write and say this was a lovely hotel - but in all honesty, I can't! It looks impressive from the outside, but once inside, it all changes. It is a very old hotel and hasn't managed to keep up with the modern pace. The man that was on reception was very pleasant and helpful, but this didn't make up for the room once I was inside. The first thing I noticed was the stains on the carpet! There were two or three of these in different areas! The next thing was some mould around the bath edges. When I went to put the bedside light on, the top came away - it had broken at the wire frame -and just put back on the top, balancing precariously! The room I was in was at the front of the building, and being on the main road, was quite noisy until after midnight. The bed itself was quite comfortable, and I had a reasonable nights sleep. Breakfast was fine, although I had to go to reception to get the owner before I could order. One strange thing was the fruit juice was in bottles - Britvic by brand, and I have never had that in a hotel before at breakfast. The food was O.K. and seemed to be freshly prepared. There as a problem with the C.C. device, but this was rectified, in a fashion, by the time I left. I would love to say it was all fine, but unfortunately, too many little niggles, let it down. It would need quite a lot of time and money spending to bring it back to its former glory. Steeped in history, it would be magnificent once again if this was done. I don't think I would stay there again, but I do hope they can turn the place around.
Stopped in on a slow day and found the fire lit and well kept beers on tap. We were only stopping for a drink but the fire was stoked for us and given its age,it's a cosy ,quiet place for a pint. There are some nooks and crannies you can sit yourself in and pass a peaceful hour.
This hotel dates back a long time and whilst I knew it may have some kind of old smell to it, at times it was so overpowering. The damp smell of the furniture in the living room area was really bad. I couldn't eat my breakfast the next morning as the smell knocked me sick although it did look very appetising. The staff were friendly and very accommodating but the smell put me off. Needs updating
This was an awful place. Sooo outdated, sooo smelly, sooo dirty!! I had to ask receptionist to bring vacuum cleaner. Room full of spider webs, bugs crawling on ceiling, carpet stained everywhere and full of bits. The whole place is disgusting and made me feel itchy all night. The only positive: nice friendly staff and acceptable breakfast. I cut stay short to 1 night instead of 2. I was on a walking weekend. The place urgently needs a revamp. One of the worst places I have stayed in....
We were looking for a pub or a place to drink and this was one of the places Google suggested that was actually open. Prices weren't bad and service was quick but possibly just because it wasn't busy. No real atmosphere due to there only being one other table in the place (no idea if they had guests) but it was 5pm so might liven up at night. A historic building so worth going in just to say you've had a drink in there
