A really nice and homey tea room in Burley in the New Forest. Traditional English menu with a few extras. Breakfast is served until 11am and cooked lunch starts at 12 noon. Light bites of sandwiches, baguettes, cakes and scones are available all day. We arrived midday so we had lunch there. The farmhouse grills was great and so did the pie of the day and the fish and chips. After the meal, we had a walk to inspect the village and walked to Burley manor before returning to the tearoom for their cake and afternoon tea.
There are indoors and outside seating. Once seated, the staff will come to your table to take your food and drinks order. To pay, you will need to remember your table number and make your contactless card payment at the till. Plenty of car parking spaces on site for the tearooms customers. If you intend to have a walk after your meal, tell the staff so that they know when you are coming back.
When you go to Burley, you expect to pay over the odds for trinkets and tucker. However, there is an exception to this rule, the Old farmhouse tea room. Maybe because it was off peak and a bit of a drizzly day that it was busy but not packed. A warm welcome was given, and orders were taken, we all went for the Farmhouse grill, which was simply awesome. Chunky chips, delicious fresh eggs, piping hot beans. Well cooked bacon and the star of the show, the sausages. The sausages were of very good quality with plenty of taste and texture.
Food prices were very reasonable considering the location. The drinks, however, were on the pricier side of Burley, but again, given the location, of no suprise.
All in all, a very good meal in relaxing surroundings with New Forest ponies clip clopping past the window. Will definitely take time to visit again, maybe a little earlier in the day, for something off their deliciously tempting breakfast menu ????
My first time visiting here and I have been to Burley more times than I can remember. Well we will certainly be back! The food was delicious. I had a traditional cream tea and the other half had a Cheeseburger. Both were incredible. The food was fresh and scrumptious. The staff were attentive and friendly. The restaurant is rustic and very quaint. We highly recommend. They also had a bench with a memorial plaque for Buster Merryfield.
We had an afternoon tea to celebrate what would have been our aunts 100th birthday, had we recently not lost her. We were initially ignored by the 4 to 5 young people behind the bar, chatting away to each other - eventually, we were taken to a table.
We were seated in the furthest corner of the restaurant but it was nice and quiet. However it was so quiet that after 15 or 20 minutes no one had taken our order. The table next to us were waiting for their bill. I went to the bar, were there were still numerous staff milling around and placed our order. There was no one seemingly in charge.
Once our good arrived, it was all really lovely. The scones were delicious and the chocolate cake was fantastic. We could not fault the food or the atmosphere but the young team of staff needed someone in charge.
Quaint environment, nestled on the edge of the lovely village of Burley. The food is Lovely! And such good quality. I had a bacon sandwich and it was delicious, thick cut, properly cooked back bacon! Thick soft bread too.
When we arrived and sat down, we were handed a menu. This was covered in chocolate. So my hand was then covered in choc. The table was dirty. The sign on the door said to pay electronically. But they took cash. The sandwich bread was dry and seemed days old
I’ve been coming to New Forest (and Burley) since I was a baby. 33 years now! For the past 10 years, we always have lunch in The Old Farmhouse when we visit. Gorgeous food! Amazing location in a really old building with so much character. Love it!
It was a beautiful restaurant I visited today for breakfast. Amazingly clean with convenient parking and access. The building itself seems an art. Old structure has been beautifully maintained and tradition of typical English cutlery, fireplace and ceilings have been kept with love. Toilets were clean. Food was fresh and delicious- a value for money. Staff was welcoming and friendly. I’d definitely recommend this place.
