Perfect stop on the bike. A lush cheesy melty eggy bap and a decent cup of tea. Welcoming and nourishing especially on a gloomy February morning. Last decent stop if heading east.
Greetings, burger enthusiasts and roadside café connoisseurs! Grab your napkins, lean in, and let me tell you about a magical place that’ll turn your average highway pit stop into a gourmet getaway. I'm talking about Nice Baps, a gem of a spot where they take your baps seriously. And no, not those baps; I mean the bready ones, you cheeky rascal!
Nestled in the culinary wonderland between Wadebridge and Camelford, just off the A39 (so easy to find, it practically waves at you as you drive by), this family-run café is so heartwarming, it could melt butter on a cold scone.
Missed Kevin, the owner? I did too! The guy's a character who probably high-fives unicorns in his spare time. But fret not, his wife Laura was there, holding down the fort with her sister. You know it's all love and laughter when the family's in charge.
The food? Imagine if taste had a superhero; it would be Nice Baps' Atlantic Chicken Burger. Not just one, but two juicy pieces of chicken lounging on a bed of bacon, cheese, and fresh lettuce, all cuddled up in a soft bun. It's like a delicious family reunion in your mouth, minus the awkward conversations with Uncle Bob.
Portions? Bigger than your grandma's hug. Prices? Friendlier than your dog when you walk in the door. And the fact that they turned down Costa's offer of £750k? Priceless, like a winning lottery ticket dipped in gold.
Gordon Ramsay pops in. David Cameron's been seen munching away. If this place had a VIP list, it would read like a who's who of "People Who Know a Good Thing When They Eat It."
Compared to that other spot up the road (ahem, St Kew, I'm looking at you), Nice Baps is the café equivalent of a rock concert headlined by a burger-toting Elvis.
Open Monday to Saturday, 8 AM to 3 PM, and oh-so-cruelly closed on Sundays. It's like a little roadside tease, reminding you of what could be if only you’d passed by on a different day.
So, dear fellow travelers on the road of deliciousness, make a pit stop at Nice Baps. Special journeys deserve special burgers, and this café has them in spades. It's a place where every bap is nice, every customer is family, and every bite is a celebration.
I'll be back. You should too. But not on Sundays. On Sundays, we weep, dream of chicken burgers, and count down the hours to Monday. ????????⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Well, where do I start? Free parking on site from getting out the car we was greeted by Kevin, the owner with the most friendly smile ever. He was keen to get to know us on seeing that my son's had sunburn helped to cool it down with a little trick involving a can of ice cold lemon fanta. We sat on the benches outside eating food. I'd ordered chicken bacon and cheese Melt, and it was delicious all 4 other meals were also cooked and served well . I really couldn't fault mine; it was cooked to perfection with a latte to wash it down . He couldn't do enough for us even entrainment for my three kids telling them jokes they was mega pleased with a home made free cookie and an ice cream each ... Thanks, Kevin and family. We'll definitely be back again soon .
We visited here on a recent holiday to Cornwall and I must say they are the best baps we’ve ever had. Also our first experience of a Cornish pasty was 10/10, so much so we had to revisit. What a great little spot.
Everyone needs to go and visit Kevin, the proprietor of this fine establishment! Set in a layby, you wouldn't think anything of it, but the pasties are as big as my 10 year old's head, and the taste is just as big! Kevin provided ample entertainment while we waited for my 7 year old's sausage bap to be made, and if you go there just for a chat you won't be disappointed, the food won't either! Go visit Kevin and say hi from us (Lucas' family)!
Abso-bloody-loverly - food is outstanding, nice baps team are lush, great prices. Bought 3 baps full of gert proper ingredients, 3 hot drinks, a cookie and sweet snack which only came to around £20. Nothing to fault about this place, cheers from the hungry Bristol camper. Never give in to Costa, fight the power! ????
First time going here, first bap disintegrated after 1 bite so bought a hotdog instead which as soon as I picked it up it all fell oit the bottom of the bap again! So £16 for a coffee and left still hungry really dissappinting!
Absolutely superb food. Don't be fooled by the fact that it's a roadside kiosk. I've never had a nicer burger anywhere. This was very noticeably fresh local produce, prepared individually and with care. If I'd been served this in a pub or a restaurant, I'd be going back there for the food. This is worth going out of your way for!
