Beautiful display of cute and desirable foodstuffs in a store crammed with jars, packets and tins. It has that faint herbal aroma so redolent of halcyon days of rural England. We bought some biscuits. Friendly service.
It looked like a very quaint shop on the outside. There is alot of interesting food choices inside and home made quiches at the back. Unfortunately not very inviting and the staff/owner didn't seem very interested in serving us which is why I wouldn't recommend it. Possibly not a fan of visitors/ non locals but who can say.
NOT hygienic, and terrible owner. Looks quaint, but the food isn’t hygienic - off sandwiches and the fruit I bought was going off. The owner was really shouting at her staff when I was back in the queue to complain, so just left. She had no shame and appeared to have a personality defect. There are better places to go to on Burford Hill.
Love this little place, the smells wash over you the moment you walk in and the atmosphere is just as rich. I keep coming back for something delicious they do on the deli counter but I'm not saying what.... I expect everyone will have their own favourite anyway!
We arrived just before closing, got some scotch o'clock health foods (pork scratchings and black truffle crisps), and some asparagus for our tea. It went wonderfully into a risotto, with lemon zest and the usual kitten. Lovely helpful service, chose a couple of blue cheeses for lunch tomorrow, together with some interesting crackers and of course some anchovy goodness!
Nice artisan deli selling such completely useful items as strawberry flavoured vinegar.
Their lunches are very tasty, using local produce, but they seem unprepared for any customers! I have been in several times at lunchtime, hungrily anticipating my bacon and brie baguette, only to be denied a sandwich because they have run out of bread!
It can also take rather a long time to be served. Not the place to go if you have a bus to catch. But the food is very high quality.
Typical old style deli/grocers store - really suits the old village of Burford. Very good selection of local cheeses. Owner was very pleasant and knowledgeable about all the products. Definitely worth a visit.
Always appreciate the extremely high quality flavoured vinegars. Big selection of jams and spreadables, and small gluten free section as well. Fresh items that can be taken and eaten immediately are handy although no seating is available.
