In 2020 the cataract in my right eye had worsened considerably, and the left eye was catching up fast. My GP referred me, not to my nearest hospital, but to a hospital with a shorter waiting list. It was the best thing she could have done for me, since I was examined and operated on (at the height of COVID) by Mark Hulbert. He didn’t take long to convince me that I should opt for a) having both eyes done in one session and b) choose a new type of artificial lens implant which provided both distance and reading vision. Of course these features do not come free on the NHS. But having never been without glasses since the age of 8, i decided, age 69, to pay. Since the op my life has changed for the better, and all thanks to Mark Hulbert’s superlative technique and conscientious care. To anyone looking for a deft, trustworthy and very approachable eye surgeon, I would recommend him unreservedly.

He is a helpful, honest and open doctor, who explains everything that will happen during the cataract operation. Then we had the follow up review, where he was pleased with the results of the procedure. I have no hesitation in recommending him.

Getting surgery done on both eyes was certainly a challenge for me but Mr Hulbert was very thorough during the various phases in the lead upto his painstakingly good work in the operating theatre and afterwards. I have full praise and so pleased that he did the work and that I wasn't passed onto another member of a team, which often happens.
