Excellent pie and chips. Winner of 2024 national pie championships. Very friendly staff. Worth the trip. Very simple setting. The focus is on the food.
'Proper nice food' Best service and best food by far! The Lamb and Potato pie was delicious. I've got to commend the staff as well. Amelia on the counter is Ace with her sidekick Jess. Very warm and welcoming with delicious food.
A visit here is a must
Beyond compare! I had the Lamb, mint and potato pie with chips, peas, and gravy. Others in my company had fish. We all loved our dinners.
On a visit to Teesdale DO NOT miss the chance to eat here!
Great food, and a warm, friendly welcome. I offer my services as the Middleton in Teesdale Ambassador to Scotland! I look forward to my return. X
After readying the reviews of this place was looking to trying it out.
The only highlight was the peas and gravey. They might have been having an off day on the fish where the batter was like cardboard and very underwhelming.
We were staying for a week in Middleton in Teasdale and had on a previous day noticed really promising food being served here and eaten outside in the small eating area. So, as fish and chip lovers we relished the thought of having them on the Tuesday evening. Have to say the staff were really friendly and helpful - but, the food didn’t match. The chips in particular were very greasy, too soggy and tasted and looked as if they had been on overheated fat/oil. The fish was tasty but dry and over cooked and the batter heavy and chewy in parts ( only 2 mins from purchase to eating )
The fish patty which I would have known in Yorkshire as a “cake” ( not a fish cake, but fish bites sandwiched between two thin large slices of potato and battered and fried ) was so solid that cutting into it caused a greater portion to fly off the plate. The mushy peas and homemade tartar sauce were both really delicious and I appreciated the free scraps to make a childhood favourite of a scraps sandwich.
Maybe we just got a bad day / opening session as what we saw the previous Saturday evening genuinely looked and smelled much better.
There is an extensive menu of other food / dishes and what looked up be amazing home cooked variety of pies. All the food is fresh cooked, but I think we may have just got the wrong time / night.
Portions are extremely generous and we got two huge portions of chips despot requesting one small portion. The photo below illustrates the huge food waste and the overcooked greasy chips.
To be honest I checked the Google reviews and they looked great and I usually trust the average ratings - so, think I was right about an “off night”
Eating pies and chips at the Middleton in Teesdale fish and chip shop was a delightful experience. The pies were perfectly cooked with a crispy crust and a delicious filling, while the chips were crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside. The staff was friendly and provided quick service. We enjoyed our meal while taking in the beautiful views of the village. It was a satisfying and comforting meal that we would highly recommend to anyone visiting the area.
Lovely fish and chips. Wishing we'd had a pie after seeing them inside. They looked amazing ????
Great fish and chips. Vast menu.
All freshly cooked. Fair prices.
