The Melvich Hotel is an older property that seems to have had a makeover. The decor is trying to be beach cottage meets surf destination but comes off a bit cheaply. Some of the design decisions are odd such as the very low bathroom mirror and the tiny tv mounted on a side wall rather than opposite the bed. Why anyone would put in separate taps for hot and cold is hard to figure. Mixing valves were invented long ago and work very well. This is not specific to this place but seems to be the norm thoughtout the UK.
It is clean and the bed was the most comfortable we have had on the NC500. The pizza in the restaurant is excellent and the breakfast is very good. Service is friendly and the rooms are a nice size. The restaurant has one long wall covered in a map of the north coast which is kind of fun.
We're touring Scotland and to date this is our favourite place we've stayed. Everything was spot on and beyond expectations, staff were friendly and we enjoyed great conversation and banter with the gentleman on reception (sorry I didn't get your name!). The meals were great, fresh and high quality. The room was clean, comfortable, quiet, with a great view and a lovely shower. Honestly couldn't fault this place, a wonderful stay and if we ever travel the nc500 again this will be on the list!
Melvich hotel is on such a precious location and we really enjoyed the garden and having our morning coffee with such a nice view. Staff is very friendly and helpful, breakfast is nice and their pizza is surprisingly good! Our room was perfectly fine, nothing spectacular but clean and comfortable. We would definitely come back again :) thanks guys!
We stayed at the Melvich Hotel on our way round the NC500. The Hotel looks a little tired particularly at the entrance and reception but the owner was most welcoming to both us and our dogs. We had a compact double and it was indeed compact. Our friends had a larger twin room which was spacious. Both were clean and well presented with comfy beds. We did not have great expectations for food but it turned out to be excellent. To say we had home-made pizza sounds a little underwhelming but it was quite the opposite with a wide choice of toppings and perfectly cooked. Breakfast was also excellent with again a wide choice and good service. A bonus is the local beach which was only a 15 minute walk away and well worth a visit. Overall a very pleasant stay, good value and a hotel we would recommend.
We stayed one night at this lovely hotel while visiting some North Coast 500 land marks. It is situated right beside the coast, so we could see this stunning view from our bedroom windows. The hotel itself was a large homely building with a fairly large dining room, lounge and perfectly maintained gardens. The room we had was a double and it was really big, lots of space. The bathroom was massive too, with a separate bath and shower, which was ideal. The bed was a decent sized double and fairly comfortable too! We booked a table for Dinner and this was the only let down of our stay. The dinner service was so understaffed, we felt sorry for the staff that were working. We were in the dining room for two hours for our two course meal. After our long drive, we just wanted a quick bite then to go back to our room to relax. It must be said though, that the staff that were working, were very attentive and we couldn't fault them at all. Great service ????All in all, it was an enjoyable stay and we will be returning. Hopefully there will be more staff in the dining room next time.
Great hotel. Lovely staff who are friendly and helpful. The bed is perfect - best nights sleep in ages. The food is very tasty. Pizzas are huge! Only one thing I'd like to see in the room is a hook for my coat. But other than that, it's been a great stay.
I love this little hotel. I’ve stayed here a couple of times now and it never disappoints.
So many places to stay on North Coast 500 route feel like they’re capitalising on the route’s popularity without making very much effort but The Melvich Hotel doesn’t feel like that at all. The staff are friendly and welcoming and the food is great quality (and if you like good pizza, you won’t be disappointed).
As soon as you walk through the door, you get the feeling that the owners really care about their guest’s experience
The whole place has a stylish and tasteful surfing vibe which forms the basis of the colour palette of the guest rooms. The rooms themselves are well-furnished and comfortable and the public areas are decorated with beachcombing treasure.
Sadly the cosy public lounge is closed at the moment due to COVID but the dining room and bar area is open. The ‘feature wall’ mural map of the north coast in the dining area is a lovely touch. There’s also a garden area that has views across to Melvich Beach.
Definitely worth a visit.
Relaxing, friendly, clean. Had a lovely night here enjoying the fabulous food and stunning views. Friendly, helpful team made the whole experience very relaxing and enjoyable. Lovely big room looking out at the Pentland Firth and we were lucky with the weather so could enjoy the view from the garden. Delicious dinner and breakfast with quick service and a great selection of local drinks to choose from. Would definitely recommend and will be back!
