These guys have been at the pentagon centre in chatham for the last week or so. We bought a selection of cakes from them and all I can say is wow! The cakes tasted great, super soft and massive portion sizes.
I didn't get the gents name who was working on the stall today but he was fantastic, super friendly! The cakes tasted that good we bought more today.
I found a piece of soft blue PLASTIC baked in my French artisan seeded loaf today. There is NO WAY of contacting McCarthys to tell them this. No working phone number. No up to date social media. Message box on website not working. It would appear they are avoiding people! Very disappointing.
The experience with a seller themselves was really positive and hence 2 stars not 1. I am severely gluten intolerant and while shopping for bread they went above and beyond to make sure the bread is definitely gluten free and that I can have all the ingredients in it, which was really praise worthy as, trust me, not everyone does this and then I pay the price for it.
HOWEVER, the breads are overpriced at £4.50 per loaf (not a small size loaf I must say) but they appeared to be stale at the purchase already. I thought it might of been because of the cold weather and once they're in the warmth it'll get better. Well, it didn't. So I spend £9 on two loaves of bread, which weren't edible and got covered with mould the next day if that.
Happy with the customer care but absolutely disappointed with the quality of the product. Sorry.
I really love Portuguese tarts and there are some nice looking cakes. They do have an organic bread but I haven't tried yet. My only disappointment is hygiene which is very important when dealing with food. I can't understand why should you wear those gloves when using the same ones for my food and cash? It's really bad when you see someone dealing with money and then straight picking your tarts.
Had a stall in Pentagon Chatham. As person said took card payments. Got a few bits. Omg your Apple stroodle is incredible. We loved your Red velvet cake too. Can't wait to try the rest of the bit I brought. Stake & Ale pies & chocolate fudge cake. Hope to see you again. Very yummy. A very happy customer & family.
In our local market today we purchased 3 cheese scones, 1 brownie and 3 large doughnuts for £9. Food was excellent. One of the best brownies I've eaten. Cheese scones were cheesy. Doughnuts were generously sized.
So disappointed by the ‘ rhum babas ‘ bought today from you at the T Wells market. No rum that we could taste and disgusting fake cream. They were a travesty of the real thing. “nothing but the best ingredients”: nonsense! I could get much better from a decent supermarket.
Shame, as we’ve had excellent bread from you in the past
Today at Tunbridge Wells food fair I bought Rumbas and pasties.
They were terrible - I asked if the pasties had chunks of meat and was assured they did - a lie, they have minced meat complete with bits of gristle!! I have pictures.
The rumbabas look great but almost zero flavour (couldn’t detect rum) and artificial unpleasant cream in the centre.
Disgusted !!!
