Very happy with our lunch. I had mushroom soup and a cheese toastie. Wife had tina mayonnaise jacket potato. 2 teas. £18.45. Only thing I didn’t like is you have to wait to be seated. This means people queue with the door open so very draughty if your sitting near the door.
We visited Castle Douglas today and happened upon Mad Hatter in the main street. The food here is lovely, we enjoyed two jacket potatoes, one with haggis the other with curried chicken. Fresh, tasty and enjoyable. I also noticed the cafe was very, very clean. If you visit a lot of places after the pandemic they've gone back to their bad old ways of not properly cleaning tables. The table and chairs were very clean ???? it's good to see someone running a tight ship. Staff were friendly and the prices were very reasonable. I saw a couple of posts moaning about prices, I don't think they've been out recently. Prices in England and Scotland in general are much higher than here.
I come here most weeks nice basic food. A negative comment is waitresses not been attentive, my tea was nearly cold before I could get any sugar after my meal I wanted a scone with my tea a waitress took my plate but no offer of would you like anything else so by the time I could get her attention I’d drank my tea so I didn’t bother. Yes it might of helped my Waite line but I ALSO REDUCES the cafes bank balance plus I prefer to leave a £ tip but not when it’s poor service. I haven’t left back rankings because the cafe is good but with a little bit of effort it could be very good
Food is always very tasty and staff are very helpful! Good comfort food, not half as expensive as some other places :)
Cakes were mostly gluten free, only 1 option that wasnt gf and staff seemed quite miserable.
Great dog friendly cafe in the centre of Castle Douglas. Lovely staff, great food and very reasonably priced. The dogs got a cheeky biscuit or two as well
Nice place, we got in just before they got completely full. Very popular.
Food was good traditional food but wish I'd seen the specials board before I ordered as there were some real bargains ????
Very dog friendly which is OK if you like dogs ????
Toilets were spotless????
Delicious soup and tray bakes. Quick service. Always like to come in here when we come up on holiday. Very dog friendly too. Not that we have a dog, but lots came in and the staff love them and give them bowls of water.
