Lovely part of the area with nice walks. Such a shame they are now going to stop motorhomes parking there. The cafe will lose out on business. Short sighted decision of council.
Lovely area to go for a stroll, beautiful views of the Severn estuary.
And now with addition of Hips Social you can enjoy a coffee and cake whiles enjoying the area ????????????????
The access from the A48 is not inspiring, pot holes, roadworks, and industrial estates, but in less than 2 miles you arrive at the fascinating Lydney Harbour. The place has a wealth of history, interesting walks, great views and various sculptures and remanants of the industrial past. There is also an info point, cafe and plenty of seating. Parking is free but can get very busy.
Superb little place. Nice cafe there too and great place to start a walk along the Severn Estuary.
My husband stumbled upon Lydney harbour after taking a wrong turn on his motorbike a while ago and always wanted to bring us back for a visit. He couldn’t believe how much it had changed since the last time he visited.
The car park is just a short walk away, with an ice-cream van parked up (perfect for a hot day). Attractive new safety railings surrounding the harbour, which had lots of boats floating on clear blue waters. A new toilet block and information room. Our daughter had a gorgeous milkshake from the Café, which had plenty of picnic benches. Lots of rubbish bins around, which is nice to see to keep the place litter free.
A lovely old harbour. Lots of history. Recently opened cafe and toilets.
My photos show the outer harbour full of water, something for the future, I hope!
A lovely surprise at the end of a very industrial road. Free parking a short walk from an excellent little café. The round walk is mostly wheelchair accessible bar the first lock gate which has a step at both ends. Great views of the River Severn. Popular with dog walkers and joggers.
Maps tried to take me through gates of industrial estate several times so we ignored it and carried on ahead and found the harbour. Ice cream van by gate. Nice area for dog walks. Plenty of bins that I could see but nota place for young kids as no safety rails!!! Hence 4 stars. I did not go all round but it was pleasant. Sailing club nearby but no pubs or anything. Missed opportunity really.
