My day at Llyn y Fan Fach was nothing short of magical. The hike, spanning roughly 11 km, offered some of the most stunning views I've encountered. Although I didn't complete the entire trail or venture onto the additional mountain that could have extended my hike significantly, the experience was fulfilling.
The trek itself is pleasantly manageable, featuring no steep climbs which made it quite enjoyable. Most of the path is flat or has a slight incline, perfect for hikers of all levels seeking to enjoy the natural beauty without the strain of a challenging climb.
Parking was straightforward, as the car park, though small, is free. It's worth noting that due to the limited space, some visitors opted to park along the roadside leading to the car park. This didn't detract from the overall experience but is something to be mindful of during busier times.
For future adventurers, I've included a photo of a map which I found invaluable for navigating the area. This scenic trek is highly recommended for anyone looking to immerse themselves in nature without the hardship of a strenuous hike.
Can get a bit busy , rough track and deadly speed bumps . But well worth the visit for the beautiful views . About a 9 mile walk to see both lakes and walk the ridge to see picws du .
Fantastic place for a walk. Dogs welcome but must be kept on leads at all times. I would suggest arriving early as we had to wait for a car parking space to become available. Last few miles to the car park was traumatic very narrow roads if you are not confident in reversing don't go or get someone else to drive. All said extremely well worth a visit.
Nice easy steady incline walk to the water, big car park but has narrow roads leading to that! Lovely spot!
Easy to find, obvious paths to the start of the walk.Lovely walk, lots of summits on one walk. Some works going on at the bottom lake, so there is not too much water. Still enough to see.
The hike was quite hard yet beautiful and exciting. No toilet facilities in the car park really appreciate if they had it somewhere around.
Plus: portaloos, helpful ranger.
Minus: rough surface & approach, quite small.
A fair trek up to the lake before you even start walking around it. I did get a full 4G signal all round the ridge and lower slopes. Can't even get that at home in my suburban terrace, what's that about, eh O2?
Allow 5-6 hours for the full circuit of both lakes and, while you can do it in trainers, expect to spend a lot of time dodging boggy patches with the enhanced risk of a twisted ankle. Magnificent walk & views though; you are also likely to encounter a lot of friendly folk with really good doggos.
Wonderful walk (even if it is rather tiring). Uphill walk to the lake, and even more so if you fancy the trek to the top! But it's totally worth it for the views.
The car park had a couple of porta-loos (April 2022) and there are plenty of sheep around so dogs need to be under control.
