Amazing and luxurious B&B and « table d’hôte » in a “quiet” village; perfectly located to discover the Champagne region and to go and visit local champagne farmers for a tasting.
The owners are very friendly and helpful and their food is delicious!
Highly recommended when you want to visit the Champagne region!
We found this little gem via the internet whilst searching for chateaux accommodation in the Champagne region of France. The company we booked with, Champagne Travel, was excellent & our stay of 2 nights at this delightful small chateau was exceptionally well organised by Hinke at Champagne Travel, & it was such great value for money too. ||Our hosts at the chateau (which is also their home) were the utterly charming Chris & his wife Anneka who served us sumptuous meals at breakfast & dinner & looked after us so well. Chris is a chef & used to run his own restaurant in Antwerp, Belgium, so we were treated to some outstanding meals. This really was a massive bonus - & all included in the price.||Their chateau was ideally located around 30 minutes' away from Epernay in the heart of the Champagne region & about 45 minutes' from Reims. Paris was also only around a 1 hr 45 minutes' drive away, though we didn't have time to visit. ||We loved everything about our stay here & thoroughly enjoyed the trips to a large Champagne House & a small Champagne House, which were included in the deal by Champagne Travel. Everything absolutely exceeded our expectations & we loved our trip, including the couple's cute little French Bulldog, Freddie, who was clearly used to guests staying in his home as he was so friendly & at ease with visitors.||This charming chateau was such a pretty place & as we had such glorious weather at the beginning of October, we sat out in the large garden when we first arrived with Champagne & plates of bread, cheeses, ham & condiments, provided by our fabulous hosts. It was the perfect afternoon!||Our rooms were spacious, comfortable & spotlessly clean & the fact that our meals were provided was an absolute bonus. Don't forget to visit their little shop in a front room of the chateau - right by the entrance. We missed it on our first day but, happily, found it just before we were leaving & bought lots of bottles of Champagne, made by local Champagne Houses just down the road. These were very reasonably priced, as was their home made pate & preserves. Don't leave without looking (or buying)!||We would highly recommend the tours of the Champagne Houses we visited too : the small Champagne House of Lamiable tour turned out to be a private tour as there were only the 4 of us! Our tour to the large Champagne House of Le Mercier was also excellent & we loved how modern the premises were & how high tech the little train was which took us around the caves. The Champagne tasting was also fun & informative. The shop was superb afterwards too & we came away with lots of Champagne!||This had long been a bucket list trip for me & I wasn't disappointed in any way. If we find ourselves back in the Epernay region, we would certainly head for Le Petit Chateau at Baye again. Thank you to all involved for making our stay so memorable.|
