Staying at the Chateau de Poigny was like living in a dream. Not only was it amazingly scenic and comfortable, but Richard was always available to answer questions and provide suggestions! We actually hosted our wedding at this location and Richard helped put us in contact with a wonderful chef who made us an amazing 5 course dinner right in the Chateau and a florist who crafted amazing centerpieces and a flower arch. The house was cozy yet spacious, and just genuinely fantastic. The only recommendation we can provide is that if you do stay here, rent a car (as Richard always suggests). We did and it made traveling back and forth to the train and stores super easy. Thanks Richard for being such an excellent host. Can’t wait to return!
Myself and 20 of my best friends stayed at Chateau de Poigny to celebrate my bachelorette. It was the perfect girls weekend. The chateau is so magical, spacious, and clean. We had more than enough room and then some. Richard was so accommodating, helping us with booking a private chef, transportation, and a yoga teacher. One thing to note, you must have transportation. Uber does not come all the way out here. You also must bring ear plugs as the chateau is next door to a church that has bells that start ringing quite early. I would 100% come back with my family in the future. It really is a magical place.
Richards place was just what our family needed for our adventures in France 9/17-28/2018. We were in France for a wedding the following week in the Marseille region and the group decided a trip to Paris the week before the wedding would be a great way to kick off our journey. Because we were a family of 16, our lodging needed to accommodate a variety of requests from parents age 65+ to the youngest age 8.||||My sister, niece and I arrived a day before the rest of the group with the idea we would add some touches to the guest rooms but when we arrived there was nothing we needed to do. We were met by Florence who gave us the keys, a tour of the property and provided basic information for our stay. And while she did not speak English, we/I did not speak French so it was a lot of smiling and nodding. We made the communication work. I love that about traveling abroad – the ability to communicate even though our command of the host language is minimal at best. The Chateau is beautifully appointed, spacious, well-kept and so very lovely. We felt a little guilty having this huge place to ourselves for the night but that quickly vanished as we realized we had first pick of the rooms we would occupy for our stay :) LOL||||The home is laid out so very well with a basement/sub level that had a washer/dryer, extra refrigerator, sitting area and sleeping quarters. The main level had enough space for our group with two “living areas” but our family leaned towards the kitchen and formal dining area. Upstairs on the top 2 floors are the bedrooms which met everyone’s sleeping arrangements. The beds were comfy, the bathrooms were clean and functional. I got some really great decorating ideas for my home. The pictures posted on AirBnB and Facebook are precise in my estimation. There were no surprises for me. Richard does an excellent job staying in touch and sharing information.||||Now for the community and other information. The Chateau is located in a quaint village called Poigny La Foret next to a small church. The church bells do toll but they never bothered me as I was enchanted with my surroundings and that added to the appeal of my stay. ||||For food and restaurants, we headed to Rambouillet which is about a 10-minute drive. The town of Rambouillet had the train station which transported us to the city of Paris every day; as well as restaurants, patisseries and grocery stores. We became regulars at one of the patisseries; my 18-year-old niece and I would hop in the car and drive every morning to pick up croissants and pastries for breakfast before the rest of the family woke up. We also found a delicious creperie called La Creperie du Roi. Sweet and savory crepes were on the menu as well as the most refreshing virgin mojito I’ve ever had. And if you needed groceries the Franprix was in town too.||||We had secured from the airport the Navigo Decouverte weekly pass for 22.80 euros which allowed us to travel on train, buses and subways. We would park our car (which we acquired from the Avis 1.5 miles away) in the train station lot and hop on the train into Paris. The group loved that. We could either take the local train which was about an hour or the express train which was 30 minutes. We were on vacation so we switched it up. We wanted to experience local life as much as possible. ||||I could go on and on BUT I will not. This was the BEST family trip ever. The Chateau is the most ideal spot for large families who want a piece of countryside charm with access to all that Paris has to offer.
we had an exceptional weekend at the château de poigny to celebrate my father's 50th birthday. We slept at 19 in this house without being embarrassed thanks to the many rooms and bathrooms. We asked a chef proposed by Richard who came to prepare us a quality meal on the places. Very friendly experience for a party meal. The weather was very pleasant what allowed us to enjoy the great garden and the forest of rambouillet adjacent to the house. I highly recommend this place for a stay outside of Paris.
It's a lovely house, but not nearly as spacious as the photos make it out to be, especially the photos showing the front lawn and backyard. They are not rambling or walkable, there is a fence separating them from the neighbors'. There is also no steam room or gym, and I keep seeing that in most of the online descriptions, I believe it may be a mistake. There is plenty of room for 20 people, however, if some people sleep in the same rooms together. While it is not a castle, I would definitely call it cozy and beautiful. It's nicely decorated, has a gorgeous kitchen, and the yard area is large for a residential home. The host provides spa-quality soap and bath wash as well as towels. The neighborhood is extremely charming. Beware that most businesses in the nearby town are closed on Sundays, and many restaurants seem to have random hours. Very relaxing and great for family trips.
I wanted to celebrate my 60th birthday in a château and found this one on air Bnb. We have just had a wonderful 3 nights with family and friends celebrating my 60th birthday in Richard's beautiful château. Although I had completed my research you often read various opinions of properties in the reviews so you do not know exactly what you will get until you walk in the door. I can only describe our experience in terms of superlatives. The château is very authentic and furnished in a genuine French chic style. In fact the photos don't do justice to some of the rooms. We were extremely fortunate to arrive a week after installation of new furnishings which meant comfortable beds and new linen for all our guests. And we understand the kitchen will soon be fitted with new crockery and cutlery too which will complete the experience. ||Richard is so responsive to any query that you almost feel guilty for contacting him. He will immediately respond to any question it seems no matter what time of the day or night... I am not sure if he sleeps! He kindly put us in touch with chef Laurant who cooked an amazing meal for 22 people single handedly in 2 hours. He also arranged for the local restaurant which is in walking distance to open especially for us on their day of closure. To anyone reading this review please do not be confused by any reviews that say this château is isolated. It in fact sits right in the middle of a small village so you get to enjoy the lovely grounds and forest but still have access to a restaurant. And the nearby town of Rambouillet is only a 10 minute drive and there you have access to all the shops you could possibly need along with a major train station into Paris. There are also taxis at the station if required. ||I highly recommend the château for a place to share with a large party of guests if you enjoy ambience privacy space and tasteful decor||||
