I went here with my family a couple of weeks ago to celebrate a birthday. This restaurant served Mediterranean cuisine which was delicious and very well made. The food was well presented with good portion sizes and tasted incredible. We went on a quiet week night so it was pretty much empty and the server was very helpful and kind! It was very nicely decorated with pictures of Mediterranean landscapes and excellent lighting. However, the music was a little loud and strange but this was a very minor issue and as I said it was a quiet night so there wasn’t a full atmosphere. Overall, I would definitely recommend this restaurant for anyone who wants a lovely dinner out with family or friends.

Some dishes were great, and some were not great. The lamb chops were incredible. However the Greek salad must be the smallest I’ve ever seen - a very ‘un-Greek’ portion size indeed. And it had lettuce… but no peppers. Not very authentic.
Delighted with the food and service at La Taverna - About a year or two ago there was a restaurant open here under a different name, but if you visited at that time it's definitely worth eating here again as everything was delicious and we were well looked after by the staff.
I'd highly recommend the lasagne and the pistachio cheesecake for dessert! The staff member who looked after us was attentive and kind which is exactly what you want from a restaurant.
Will be back to try the pizza soon!
Really enjoyed our lunchtime meal at La Taverna. The Branzino was superb, and the staff were very, very helpful. Would definitely come back. Menu now seems to be focused on Italian dishes.
Couldn't fault the food. Tasty and spicy.
Portion size was just right.
Service was attentive and helpful.
Early evening, so a little quiet.
Background music was in keeping.
Very good.
We went here for dinner yesterday, shortly before 8. It all started out quite comically - upon arrival the waiter looked around as to where to seat us , when there was only one table available.
It was extremely busy.
Once seated we haven’t had any drinks orders taken for probably 20 mins. Soon enough our drinks arrived and shortly after our starters .
Starters were likely not for us , as other people had by this point been waiting for their starter for an hour!
The starter itself was really nice, but one of the dishes was something different to what was advertised (instead of meatballs we had some sort of beef stew, but it was delicious).
Meanwhile the table next to us had their second starter delivered , instead of a main, much to their confusion and our entertainment.
By the time our main course came around it was 21:30 and 4 people had walked out already, as they hadn’t gotten their orders.
An older couple waited an hour for their starter ! Most people weren’t charged before walking out.
Our main course arrived and it looked really good. However the chips were not cooked and neither was the meat. You’ll see from my photos that both the pork and chicken were pink.
The manager offered to take back the chips (to cook again?) after she had taken one from our plate with her bare hands to snap in half and realised that we are right, and they’re not cooked. She also explained that she is ‚only the manager‘ and she doesn’t cook the food?!
We declined this as we didn’t want the meat to go back and go cold while we wait. She should have offered to bring another, cooked portion of chips instead of taking these away.
When we discovered the meat was also not cooked we complained. Al the staff were absolutely overwhelmed with the situation and tried to offer to cook the food again, give it to us as a take away etc. But we had had enough by then and wanted to go home. They made us pay for our drinks and then we left.
Aside from this the music in there was much too loud and their accessible toilet had a button to call for assistance rather than a red cord. Except the button is fixed way too high on the wall, so if someone did fall off the toilet they wouldn’t be able to reach and couldn’t call for assistance.
It‘s a real shame because this could be a lovely new dinner spot in town and the food does have the potential to be really good, they just need to cook it better and get their staff organised.
It’s also quite fairly priced at 23,99 for a main and a starter.
We stopped for lunch in Monmouth and came across La taverna. The food and service was fantastic and the waiter was very attentive. Would thoroughly recommend and I’m sure we will go back!!
