Nice warm welcome we were told that it was in need of a up date it was to bad.the bedroom itself the bed was old & went down at 1 side we didn't have much of a view as such, just over looking the centre of the place. We had a choice with continental & full English fresh bread for toast ???? we had a evening meal of steak & chips absolutely gorgeous & a gilsland Eaton mess that was beautiful ❤️ definitely come again after the refurbishment hope they keep the same staff as they made us feel at ease as soon as we walked in thanks guys
This place is amazing. The surrounding countryside is absolutely gorgeous. This old manor house is set in 140 acres of land that we have yet to see, however the welcome we got, the customer service has already made us feel so welcome we would definitely come again. The building itself is stunning with views over the landscape. It's has a real sulphur spa in its own grounds with footpaths and trails to follow. Lovely garden area . Function rooms and a very nice bistro bar and restaurant. We have a small dog and he is as welcome as us. The staff are as good to him as us. Our evening meal was brilliant. Room very comfortable and absolutely spotless. Will be interested to see our breakfast tomorrow and we get to see the ballroom and orangery for that. Check out the history of this place it's fascinating. Thank you Gilsland Hall Hotel. You are a great place and your staff are s credit to you ????
Our family can't thank everyone at Gilsland enough for all they did. Our complements to the amazing chef (Scouse) for his meals. The rooms were amazing. Friendly staff. Beautiful surroundings. Again, thank you Germaine, Charlotte, Meg and Barbara and all staff for everything ????
This is a large hotel in a wonderful location and is I'm sure a popular wedding venue. I was there as part of a group having the Sunday carvery. At under £10 it is competitively priced. The choice of three meats was good and the portions generous. Vegetables were help yourself but the potatoes were a bit under and the remaining choice OK. The pudding (£4.95) was delicious. Staff were helpful and friendly. The decor is lovely in places but elsewhere it looks untidy. The bottom third of the radiator in the gents toilet was rusty and the cloth handtowel was lying on the floor having run out. The grounds and surrounding woods make for nice strolls and intriguing walks and there is a lovely church at the end of the entrance drive. Some of the borders and patios look like they needed some attention. Many of our more elderly friends remember it from long ago and they think it isn't what it once was. I'm sure though it will be an attractive venue for many and it does seem to offer good value for money.
A really lovely, traditional style, hotel in a stunning location. Our twin room was very comfortable with beautiful views over the countryside. The breakfasts were excellent & the pub grub very good. We had a delightful "high tea" soon after arrival.
The staff are very helpful and friendly. I cannot recommend this hotel enough & hope to come back some day. 10/10 & a gold star!
Excellent skeleton staff very understanding and helpful under the circumstances.Yes skeleton staff, that's correct.my firm booked 4 nights here, only to find under new management and in a refurbishment stage.Arrived and the reception was bordered up.No one around at first.Walking in corridors of this 92 bedroom hotel shouting Hello, anyone here. Finally found two ladies and one gentleman. Confirmed who we were,to be told no hot water available, due to no gas delivery. For breakfast, just juice and cereal, cup tea was on offer, Nothing else. No evening meals available. The place should not accept bookings in my personal opinion until 100 per cent ready. The gardens and surrounding looked run down. For those who wish to stay here it might have been good once but now I would wait until it has more to offer as a Hotel should be.Again the only good think there at present is the very helpful staff who were very understanding, considering the current situation. To the new owners get a grip guys.
A really nice place, yes some aspects are a little run down and would benefit from refurbishment i.e. the suspended ceilings and fire doors in the corridors, and some of the seating, mismatched fittings in the bathrooms, and tired pink bath and toilet. All that taken into account, staff were friendly and seemed interested in doing a good job, the rooms were large and clean, and the bed was comfortable. Lovely views from room and hotel grounds, and some nice little woodland walks directly from the hotel grounds. We had dinner and breakfast at the hotel, dinner choice was very limited and of OK quality (Pretty sure the chips were oven chips), but the buffet breakfast was really nice, with plenty of tea, and fruit juice. I understand why the hotel has a 2 star rating, but I have been I 3 star hotels that were a lot worse. Some small investment in this hotel could easily raise its rating levels, however it is in quite an out of the way location, and probably isn't bombarded with business.
Went here with three friends. The grounds of the hotel are beautiful. We found the staff very friendly and helpful. As quite a few people have already said the place is a bit tired looking, but it's a massive size to have to take care of. The rooms were all clean and comfortable. Food was good and bar prices not over the top. I would definitely return and recommend it to others. Also dog friendly which I thoroughly enjoyed saying hello to them all and their owners.
