Unfortunately, this is not a nice a cafe. Firstly, when we arrived there were no cup lids left and they were struggling to accept cash due to a lack of change. The lady serving was polite and friendly, but the cafe itself is in a fairly depressing “walled garden” which isn’t really a garden and just an empty space. The cafe itself is cold, and the coffee is mediocre. The coffee is also overpriced, particularly given the quality. The food selection is poor. The coffee and walnut cake is grim and gross looking. It’s also dense like a loaf of bread and isn’t sweet enough. Only the icing was moderately acceptable, however, it certainly wasn’t worth £3 and I wasn’t able to finish it. The way the cafe is decorated is ok, but it’s nothing special and could do with a refresh.
The cafe also had signs up which said that they don’t provide toilet roll or free cups for water. I can understand the general sentiment of not offering free disposable cups. However the sign was a bit odd and confrontational and they should be providing toilet roll if they are in charge of the nearby toilets and could offer to sell cups.
Overall I wouldn’t recommend this place and wouldn’t come back.
So much potential here and a good ethos of healthy food and no plastic. Unfortunately they are completely out of their depth running a cafe. We waited 40 minutes for a soup, toastie and kids sandwich only to finally be told when we asked that they wouldn't be making it for us and to get a refund. There was no apology and clearly no intention to tell us they had given up on our food. At peak lunch time at 1pm the server also left to take her very sweet but loudly barking dog for a walk leaving the other server on her own with a queue of people. Such a shame as a well run operation could do a roaring trade here.
Lovely cafe, great latte, lovely lady who served us and complimented my daughter, situated in a Tudor style barn building. Will definitely return. £6.80 for 2 lattes and option to pay with card not bad at all.
Very cute cafe located at the beautiful grounds of Forty Hall. Staff was nice the hot chocolate was tasty. However the coffee and walnut cake was a disappointment and was not very nice, more a stuffy bread pice than cake. It is also quite pricy with a large hot chocolate being £5.
I visited the cafè yesterday with friends, following the wonderful wreath making workshop. We ordered x2 coffee & walnut cakes & one ‘hot cross bun’. The coffee & walnut cakes were dry and tasteless. However, the hot cross bun was rock solid, and not edible whatsoever. We took the bun back to the counter and explained it was extremely hard. The waitress didn’t offer another cake in exchange, a refund or even an apology, they was very unhelpful, rude and dismissive!
We later found out they was the owner! Very disappointing with the level of customer service was totally unacceptable and we will not visit again.
Sign up saying the cafe was closing down in a few days time. Hopefully will be taken over by new management who know what they're doing. Stingy with milk for tea, lemon cake full of pips, hardly any food left at 1:30pm. If it was staying open, I wouldn't visit again.
Great nook at the back of Forty Hall- Hot lemon & ginger drink Hearty soup & rolls - just right after a chilly walk!
Can't believe it's being taken away after what they must have been through & holding fort for the last 10 years. Enfield need to support these small family businesses not demolish in the wake of - What?!!
Very sorry for the owner who served us today.
Nice historical building. Shame in 2023 and what with catastrophic climate change that there was no vegan options as such, not even a cake. Meat and dairy causes a substantial amount of greenhouse/methane emissions and the dairy industry on the whole is very cruel for the mother cow and her babies world wide. Sadly, there isn't much green about this cafe but I'm sure things will start to get better as we find our compassion for the animals and become more environmentally aware. I like the no plastic rule there but compassion and kind whole foods is the real step forward. The coffee was very expensive and seemed rather weak. The food options very limited.
