I travelled from Harlow and I have to say it was well worth the effort. The two guys in the shop were really friendly and happy to chat, the pies were lovely with a nice crust and a really nice meat filling, nice smooth mash and a liquor that was just the right consistency. Reasonably priced too.
I'm definitely going back.
Definitely the best pie and mash in the area. Food is superb. We visited on a Wednesday afternoon so it was pretty quiet. Parking can be tricky as there are a few small shops adjacent. Spotlessly clean, and the guy that runs it is a genuine eastender so he knows what he’s doing. Will definitely return very soon.
Visited Cov's for the first time at the weekend and was not disappointed. The two guys working were really helpful, friendly and polite. The place itself looked really clean and well looked after. There's only about 5 tables to sit and eat in but it is tucked out of the way in N Weald Bassett so I don't suppose they need too much seating. I only gave 4 out of 5 for the atmos based on how small it is, but that's because I like somewhere busy and buzzing.
I'd love to see these guys somewhere like Epping, B. Stortford or Harlow but I doubt they'd be able to do what they do for the same price.
The food was great, me and my dad had pie mash a liquer. We're definitely going back soon.
It's pie and mash but not like other more traditional pies, it's more like a mince pie from a normal oven, the pastry is different. Nice and tidy shop and great service though, and a lovely cup of tea.
Very enjoyable experience along with the steam train ride from Ongar to north Weald station . Try them both together ! Pie and mash just over a fiver and very tasty
Very clean, great customer service. Mash and liquor nice. I understand they also do takeaways. In my opinion pies ok and the eels had little flavour. I bought cockles to take home and didn't enjoy them. I thought they'd be really nice as cockles from leigh. Really nice guys who don't need to listen to me but i think other suppliers maybe could be researched? I'm always happy to pay that little bit extra.
Visited on a Sunday and found the staff very friendly and attentive. We samples the pies, mash, liquor and stewed eels and everything was perfect, very authentic. If is wasn't full to the brim I would have definitely indulged in the delicious looking cakes. Great value for money.
We've tried quite a few P&M shops, their pies are definitely up there with the best! Mash is lovely too!
