Went here in a party of four for early evening meal two of us had burgers and fries and two had cod loin with chips sauces and peas, would not of been my choice of restaurant but went with the majority, food was good fish people said it was lovely,£21it should have been, told other members of party would try to be positive, but also need to be honest to your own opinion, as with most places doing fish and chips fashionable to have a miniscule pot of mushy peas, when they are about 25 pence a small tin,and burgers 1
£18 well £14 is the going rate and that is over priced,on the whole a good meal,if you like paying through your nose went back and I had marinated fish and rustic bread I have had marinated fish on Spain can't recall proper name, bread was all the same with no oils have had assorted breads elsewhere with oil and butter, the white bear weston near crewe very good
Delicious roasts, came for Sunday lunch! We didn't book a table but was seated just after 2.30pm on a Sunday. Absolutely huge Yorkshire puddings and meat that's served to your preference. Roasts came with sides (broccoli and a carrot mash), we ordered a beef and lamb shank. Portion size was great, potatoes were a little hard.
Venue was decorated well and great service.
Great food in a really nice setting. The staff were brilliant and food was served promptly. It was a nice spot for a lunch while having a walk around the town.
I don’t know what’s happened here. The Bill use to be excellent. Today the restaurant manager couldn’t have been less welcoming if she tried. After 35 minutes we with no food arriving we had to chase to at least receive our bread. To be fair the starters were good esp the heirloom tomatoes. The mains were deeply disappointing with the chicken salads being pretty much inedible. The chicken meat was grey and full of gristle. When the plates were collected with the salads pretty much untouched I did explain why. I would normally expect for at least one of them to be removed from the bill but sadly not. Never mind. This is not a cheap place to eat, so I would expect quality ingredients. Two starters, three mains and a bottle of water came to just under £80.
Kindly took a booking within 24hrs of us visiting. On arriving we were told we wouldn’t have have a booking because they have a party in…. They eventually conceded that they had booked us in and seated us but told us not to order for 35 minutes so they could serve the party. We waited patiently only to be told they weren’t taking any orders anymore and there was nothing they could do.
Very little apology, now trying to find somewhere to go with a pregnant woman and a mother with RA
Addition… two other tables have been served food having arrived after we originally did
Possibly one of the worst meals I've had in recent times.
Ordered the lamb shank shepherd's pie and aubergine lasagne. The shepherd's pie was horrible. I needed a microscope to find the 3 strings of lamb that was in the pie, it was mainly carrots and onions which were still crunchy, the vegetable side was cabbage 1 piece of broccoli and 2 slices of carrot, the cabbage was like chewing rubber and the broccoli was way over cooked.
The lasagne came with garlic bread which took almost 10 minutes to arrive after the arrival of the lasagne and was barely warm.
The guy who served us was walking around with a dirty tea towel over his shoulder which matched the dirty tables.
Avoid if you can.
We had an excellent meal at The Coach at the Bull. The menu was reassuringly small but varied enough to suit everyone in our party. Portion sizes were excellent - more than enough to feel satisfied without being over full. During our meal one of our party was taken ill and the staff were incredibly kind and attentive.
Avoid the place. It was probably nice when independently owned but is now part of a chain. The food was way overpriced and tables were filthy. I had a burger which was drier than Ghandis flipflop and sucked all moisture from my body. A pretentious place which thinks it's better than it is. Far better places to eat.
