Absolutely beautiful Loch, free to go swimming in and do our water sports e.g. Canoeing, Kayaking and Waterboarding. Overall great for a sunny day out with the family, quite close to home too.
Lovely place to just stop off, go for a walk and take in the beautiful scenery
Beautiful tranquil peaceful location to wild camp, but the wee beasties can be a bit excessive, take plenty of Smidge
A great place for bushcraft, or camping with your car! Fishing is free and unregulated, but I only managed to catch perch.
Very nice small Loch surrounded by stunning scenery. Only stayed for a couple of hours as the weather was pretty grim. We enjoyed our short walk and then had some tea and cake in the visitor centre.
A beautiful, idyllic spot set on the edge of The Galloway Forest. The Visitor's Centre is well worth a visit - delicious cakes, great tea and coffee, friendly staff and plenty of picnic tables outside with lovely views across the loch. Car park is reasonable and there are clean toilets next to the centre. A great place for walkers - there are many rambles and hikes in the area. And there is Bruce's Stone, a few hundred metres from the Visitor Centre - worth a visit. Clatteringshaws is also one of the best locations from which to see the stars at night (Galloway Forest is recognised as a gold tier Dark Sky Park).
The loch is stunning, the dam is quite a wonderful piece of construction, and the cafe there is very nice.
Nice and quiet, not many people about. Single track road goes along the lake with some passing places and couple of parking spots. Good place for wild camping but takes a while to find a decent, level place to set up a tent. There's a nice river that joins the lake, worth checking out.
