Best KPortal Reviews

No food currently due to injury, however, what an amazing Country pub with a fascinating history and stunning cosy interior. Open fire, beams, friendly staff, amazing views. Motorhome welcome.
The best pub I've been to in the last 12 months!
Excellent country pub, good selection of beer. Great outdoor space with good views down the valley. I'm not sure about food as we didn't look.
(Nov 2022) New to the area but feeling more of a local; we love popping in to the ‘Catty’ on our round trip walks around the area. Today, we stopped by for lunch having seen the kitchen renovated (delayed) during COVID and keen to find a pub we love - serve some food which I think started again in August 2022 after a challenging period to update the kitchen and hire staff.
We stopped for Sunday lunch (1pm) today with my 11 year old. Was a little disappointed by the language used by some who were sitting by the bar - F’ing and blinding. I would have hoped the bar staff may have asked them to speak a little quietly, but nothing. They clearly knew them as they were having a good chat. Thankfully the pub filled up with lunch goers and luckily it drowned out the language. I swear too, but it was literally every sentence. I’d hate to run a business where customers popped in and ruined the atmosphere for others. Other than that, we were first to order as there was no one else eating. Steak and ale pie, Cajun cauliflower and chicken burger and chips. The food took a good while to arrive. It was nice, but not amazing. The steak and ale / vegetables were soggy and had no life left in them. The burger was well stacked / presented. Chips were good but too big; prefer fries. The cauliflower Cajun was lovely and a great menu idea.
N.b. There was NO lemon in stock for the Gin and Tonic. ????
Service was friendly and polite. Lovely atmosphere (other than the swearing). Was unable to setup a tab meant it was pay as you go for every order, so that meant paying three times at the bar for x2 rounds of drinks and the food. It doesn’t instil any trust.
Some possible fixes:
1. Menu on display
2. Cutlery and sauces on all tables
3. Lots of napkins
4. Set up table numbers and tabs; leave cards behind the bar.
5. Buy lots of lemons
6. Turn the music up to drown out the swearing
7. Put the fire on dining area
8. Mark out the paint again in the car park to help people park a little better.
9. Fill the dog bowls with water; have a dog biscuit jar
I’ve swapped my 5 stars to 4 stars for now and will come back and try the food / service again. It’s a fab spot, but getting some of the smaller details right would make it a great place for all visitors.
(Aug 2021) I love this pub! Such lovely decor and memorabilia. Sometimes the landlord is at the bar and is very chatty about the area, history and pub plans. You’re likely to see some hikers, local farmers in their wellies, locals with their dogs etc.
This is a real gem. The sort of pub you only find from recommendation. They have an award from Timothy Taylor's for the way they look after their beer - and it is well deserved. There is also a gorgeous blonde pulling the pints. What's not to like?
Very friendly staff. Good beer. Lovely view
What a great pub, fantastic location, beer garden for when it's warmer, dog friendly, log fire, friendly helpful staff, big car park what more do you want...they had a few beers from local brewery's too...can't wait to go back.
Stopped off during a dog walk. Local Beer was good. They let dogs in but don't serve food on Mon Tues or Wed's... bit disappointed about the food thing but everything else was great
I called in for a swift half after first visiting this pub in the 1970,'s. Purely nostalgia. It hadn't changed a bit. I might have changed, but this pub hasn't. Thank God. A slice of peace and tranquility. I was envious of the landlord, living in this Taborial ( Wainstallian ) paradise. Visit, just visit. Thank You, Landlord.
