We were looking for a one night stop prior to visiting Balmoral Castle the next day. We came up on Bank holiday Monday and found everything spot on. We were welcomed in by Gary, the restaurant was not open that night but no matter we went to the Picture House for a bite to eat. The room as clean and comfortable. Love the full size kettle and mugs to get a proper cuppa! It is room only but we knew that next morning we just went down the street to Greggs for a bacon buttie. The hotel is well placed at the top of the street, there is street side parking after 5.30pm or a private car park to the rear. The hotel retains original features such as the wonderful staircases. This is a well situated hotel in a town on the coast, a wonderful exploring point, we would happily come again and next time would love to try the Thai restaurant!
Fantastic food, drinks and service!||Visited here with family last night for a celebration. Wouldn’t have known about it unless a friendly taxi driver from Lorimers cabs had recommended it.So glad she did! All four of us thoroughly enjoyed our starters and main courses. I chose the Thai red pineapple curry which was absolutely first class, and the others had a chicken stir fry with garlic and black pepper (also fab) and chicken with chilli. The cocktails were also excellent. Service was friendly, but unobtrusive. Hope this gem of a place becomes better known, and is not too affected by the current situation.
Attend the Thia restaurent. If never fails to impress. The food is very good and very affordable. The staff are attentive and very helpful .
However the entry into the Hotel and main entrance leaves a lot to be desired. It really gives a bad first impression in as much it needs swept clean and cosmetic decoration would not go amiss.
Don’t get the budget room !!! No elevator so had to lug 3 large suitcases 3 floors up. Room is very average and tired. Shower and toilet is in a cupboard and the shower is too small and the shower rose is useless.||Needs a refurb.||Think there is a ghost here.
I endorse what RFAMedic1 says. My wife and I had an excellent week-end in the Carlton Hotel. Graeme and Natalie were delightful hosts. Breakfast was all we wanted; the room was warm, comfortable and cosy (as was the rest of the hotel). Our room was ready, although we were early, and there was no problem at all about us leaving our cases 'til nearer the time for our train, so that we did not have to drag them with us as we explored more of the town. It was a magic stay, enhanced by the owners of the Carlton Hotel.
We stayed at the Carlton Hotel in Montrose in September this year. This small friendly family run hotel offers accommodation and breakfast. The rooms were spacious, clean and so comfortable we slept in till 8am every day. The breakfasts were huge and delicious and we had to ask for smaller portions after the first morning. Graeme and Natalie kept us informed about what to see and where to eat and what was happening each day. They run a busy hotel and it is worth booking in advance to secure a room. Nice old building.
Don't be fooled by the entrance looking a bit worse for ware, once inside the building and the rooms are excellent. Graeme and Natalie are great hosts and the breakfast must rank as one of the best I have had anywhere. All facilities are provided in the room, mine being a large en-suit double with a really comfy bed. Situated right in the centre of town with free off road parking it is ideally situated for everything. Cannot ask for anything more from a hotel, definite stay again.
The room was the cheapest I could get in Montrose at the time I booked so very reasonably priced. Nice old building with big rooms and windows. Nice view from our room. Rooms are clean and well maintained. Decor is a bit dated but rooms are comfortable. Was a bit cold at night. Probably because the rooms are big. Town centre location was handy for going out but did get a bit noisy because it was Saturday night. Staff are lovely. Very child friendly too.
