Not great all round. The food was really poor quality for the price, the staff disinterested and the atmosphere non-existent. My burger was tiny, but in a massive bun and came with tortilla chips, which was really odd and no option to swap to chips or a salad. £3.99 for a flat white was a joke, especially when it was watery and tasted very sharp.
Should’ve gone for the salt & chilli chicken van in the courtyard, looked way better, smelled great and was reasonably priced.
Extremely poor service! Waited half an hour to get menus at the table. Then after ordering waited another half an hour for drinks. The coffee is one of the worst we’ve ever had. Waited another 15 minutes for food and had to ask the waitresses and our food was ready and just getting cold. The food was about the same quality you would expect from a hospital or school cafeteria. The sausage roll was almost inedible, not sure how food like this is allowed to be served. Overall, was not a good experience which is a shame as the location is quite promising. Definitely left wanting more. Save your money and time and try somewhere else.
Stay away. Food is worse than in hospital (and I work in one????). Baked potato must have been kept hot for so long that it tasted like soap with the same soapy texture. Chicken smelled like fish, with side salad being the only edible part on the plate. Ice cream is definitely not thortons but the cheapest powder based ice-cream. Chai Latte was made from powder that was not even fully dissolved and so sweet that was not drinkable. Service mediocre, prices high, money wasted. Will never be back.
Absolutely disgraceful service 6 young girls all gathered round reception just chatting or on phones, food extremely greasy and over priced. 5 minutes after ordering a young member of staff came over and asked “eh do you mind if yous can pay before you receive your order” not idea what this was about extremely offended as could see no one else was asked to pay before receiving anything. I’d avoid at all cost staff are rude unfriendly and don’t even look at you when speaking
Asked for gluten free food. Had nothing! So I paid £2 for a bag of crisps. Drove away and a few miles past open them. Inedible and soft. Dated January 2024. Today 15th February. No phone number to call. Would like them replaced on trip back in 10 days.
Still hungry!!
Staff pleasant though
Honestly, if you have the option, go somewhere else. Food was decent, if your expectations aren't high, or you are just hungry and glad to eat practically anything, otherwise you'd be very dissapointed. Service on the other hand was simply grotesque. Five young ladies were standing at the front desk, talking to each other, or looking to their phones the whole time, looking properly bored for their age. When food or drinks were ready, the lady at the bar had to yell on them two or three times so that one of them would finally go and serve it. I don't really get the point of having so many of them there even during rush hours, because the place isn't that big, let alone during the time of our visit when it was pretty calm, yet we have waited even longer than during the busiest time somewhere in the old city center in Edinburgh in a proper restaurant full of people. Food was served on a plates filled with cheap tortilla chips, no other options available, no utencils nor napkins provided, unless you ask for it. There are one or two other establishments in the same building, that surely can provide of much better experience.
The staff here are really lovely! We needed to feed my baby sister and it was approaching closing time but they were very understanding and weren't rushing us out at all. They have very nice sweet things to go with tea and coffee.
There is a modern interior and outside seating available as well. I would highly recommend this cafe to anyone. The menu has a wide selection of lunch items and there are lots of soft drinks and some hard drinks. They also serve Thornton's ice cream and sell Thornton's chocolates.
Card payments and contactless are available here. Reasonable prices on items as well.
Lynn welcomed us and was a Ray of Sunshine around the Cafe! Nothing was too much trouble, friendly helpful and professional a real asset to the business.
Lovely Decaff flat white and delicious cakes!
Thanks for cheering up our day!
