Nice spot for a stroll along the canal, with the option to return along the old railway track. Free parking opposite.
If you like canal walking, looking at locks and taking in the beautiful surrounding countryside, you can't go wrong here!
Nice little walk this afternoon. Ample parking, we went around 1400. Slightly narrow pathways, especially if you’re walking a dog and they want to be inbetween you. We walked down to the Round Oak Inn, which is a dog friendly pub, with plenty of outdoor seating and small playground for children. Ideal for any playing Pokemon go.
Lovely place to have a walk! We went when there was a market going on! Highly recommended ????
Fantastic place to watch the world go by. Lock house with volunteer lock keeps, helping the canal barge owns navigate the three locks. You can follow the canal towards Wolverhampton to another lock, Awbridge no49 . There you can join a small country land and walk down the hill for a short distance. Where you can join an old railway walk back to Wombourne, making a stop at the old railway cafe.
Amazing to see the engineering that went into designing and building these locks. So incredibly deep and they function really well. A great spot to walk around and then 10mins down the tow path and there is a great pub for lunch. ????????
Lovely place to walk along the canal. Parking is very restrictive by the Lock (parking for about 10 vehicles only) Car Park closes at 5pm.
An amazing set of unconventional locks..a truly architectural and illogical engineering bit of canal lock design history.
The old octagonal "toll" office is still there which is used by the lock keeper/Canal and River Trust volunteer...you can buy post cards and canal memorabilia here as well.
The canal here rises by 30ft or more going up where once at the top, you can look down the valley, see Wombourne and maybe the church's spire. It also has hidden side ponds behind the towpath where culverts then connect these to intermediate pounds.
A great place to watch canal boats go up and down and fun to bring the kids to see this bit of canal history...a picnic would be perfect too.
Thanks to Mark for the help getting through the Bratch locks and for keeping the whole of the surrounding areas and space so beautifully maintained!
One of our favourite set of locks most definitely....????????
