Unfortunately my mother-in-law had to have an emergency hip replacement after a fall earlier this year. Although I only visited a few times, she had nothing but praise for the polite and friendly staff and even said that the food was good with decent choices on the menu. She was on Floor 2 ward 7 (?). Hospital were also excellent supplying new equipment to help her adjust when back at home.
As someone who has too use the Hospital more than I'd like I can't say a bad word about the A+E staff. Unfortunately it's always busy so most of my time is spent in the waiting room but we have an understanding on this. Best staff ever. I've spent many times on wards , all different wards and where you may get 1 nursing staff there are few bad eggs , I've never yet found a bad auxiliary nurse , cleaning staff are very pleasant. Great hospital for it's size and community it covers. I would like too see a Angiogram Suite put in so you don't need a trip too Edinburgh , I've been in Intensive Care twice also and the staff there are great at least they were when I was not on a ventilator.
I went to the CT department for a scan on 31st August 2023. The two nurses who looked after me were kind, professional and explained everything to me before and during the scan.
Also the radiologist answered my questions clearly.
First time in hospital setting for many years. Thank you staff you were brilliant and lovely. Result in 4 days. Wow!!
On 18th January I had a fall and my teeth made 3 holes in my lip.
Went to A & E. Seen by nurse straight away and within the hour seen and treated with stitches by Doctor. Very professional and received 5 star treatment by all staff at a busy time of the day.
Thank you Borders Hospital. Very much appreciated.
Just attended A&E under clear instructions from my local doctor if my symptoms got worse. Triaged quite quickly but after waiting 6 hours and being a joint carer for a 90 year old having a handicapped 64 year old son still living with his Mum, we were in no position to wait any longer and being told there was no indication of when I would be seen. I asked politely to see the triage nurse. That would be twice! After over half an hour of being ignored I came away from casualty and am now managing the pain I am in at home and will attend my doctor today to ask for more pain relief and how do I get treated?
I was one of many in A&E last night all being ignored and not updated.
Bloody shambles!! ????????????????????????????????????????????
Oh - and as an update - needed urgent spinal surgery due to the medical issue which I got up in Edinburgh in the first few days of March. The BGH needs an urgent management overhaul - bunch of numpties running it and that is NOT the fault of the medical staff themselves who are doing their very best in impossible circumstances.
My story: been in the queue for surgery to remove 20+ lipomas over 16 months, gave up waiting and booked in private clinic in EU (Lithuania). 3 weeks later after booking blan B phone call from Borders General H - it's been cancellation so surgery can happen in 3 days! Perfect! Went in without thinking, surgeon done assessment how to go about it but was so negative about whole thing moaning that there is no point, he dont have all day removing lipomas from my chest arm and leg, with more serious illness patients are more important so on and so on, said he can do only 4, simply can't dedicate all day on me. Fair enough i thought so decided to stick with plan B - abroad paid surgery and get it all done in one go. Yesterday was that day - 27 lipomas removed, whole surgery took 1h 20 min. Was back to friends house at 4pm same day!...... Brexit dragged NHS to the bottom instead of all lies about uplifting it, most good doctors left the country and no self respected surgeon from abroad will ever work there.
Was admitted to BGH for a total knee replacement. Doctors were wonderful and explained everything. On the ward nurses again were wonderful then things began to slip where delivery of food was concerned. I only drink decaf coffee, so wasn't surprised when none was available when I asked if they had anything else apart from tea/coffee was told no. Then meals were hit and miss when asked for something was told they would get it but it never arrived or part of the meal was missing, gave up in the end as the food wasn't very good when it did arrive. Then just before I was discharged the tea/coffee trolley came with a different person serving and was offered hot chocolate ( my first hot drink for 3 days). I also could not understand why water was given to us in plastic bottles when we are trying to cut down on plastic waste. On discharge I was not given enough advice regarding medications (My own meds and others supplied by the hospital) Otherwise care was good. This could be a gold standard hospital if only the ancillary part was up to standard.
Absolute dump of a place. They don't even check patient records before giving out drugs. Leading to innocent people dying.
Unfortunately had to go to hospital during holiday and from stepping in the door the staff and Doctor were great. Welcoming smiles and very pleasant even when could see how busy they all were and the amount of ambulance emergencies coming in. NHS are an amazing team that I am proud that we have.
