Cosy accommodation sadly let down by non existent service. Room wasn’t cleaned, no breakfast available anywhere on site and had to ask three times for replacement towels. Very convenient though and hopefully these were early season teething issues ||Single staircase access to rooms does pose potential concern re emergency / fire escape as no other exit clearly signposted ?
We visited a few times for drinks during our week stay in Embleton. It’s a cozy and clean dog friendly pub with a separate dining room and with welcoming staff. There was no food on offer as they don’t have a chef just now but if they had we would have happily eaten there.
We walked with a 4 year old “non walker” about a mile to the bluebell…. We didn’t know there was no food available… however that didn't impact on our warm|Welcome. We were initially disappointed but were happy to receive Advice as to where to eat. We enjoyed a refreshing beverage, and in the return walk one for the road…. Children friendly! And if I’d had more confidence I’d have given the barman my number! Lovely place and much better since “sambucas” no longer own it ????
Called in at the last minute with no reservation and although the full menu was not on offer ( chef/staffing issue - it happens, right?) we were given a warm friendly welcome and a decent plate of fish n chips. Loved the music too. So thank you Dave (?) from Mr. Brightside!
Called into the blue bell after a walk to dunstanborough castle along the coast from craster. The pub in craster was extremely busy so opted to find elsewhere on the way back to seahouses where we were staying . We were on a bit of a time schedule so thought we would try and pick up something quick and this was the next available pub on our journey back . It was NYE so we knew our choices may be limited . However we entered and were warmly welcomed . The pub is dog friendly BTW. Some choices of drinks were unavailable as were snacks due to supplier issues and the pub closing for a post Xmas break . No problem .we decided to order a selection of starters and were asked to move to the seating area to the rear . The interior is a bit of a mish mash of styles . Kind of local pub meets Italian restaurant and in need of a bit of love?!? I suspect this pub may have had a few different operators recently . I have got to be honest, at this point our expectations were limited of the food . And Yknow, it’s so nice to be totally wrong. When the food arrived it was all totally great . Special mention goes to the chips . They taste and looked totally home made and just how my dad cooks them. Lovely! The pork belly was fab , so was the mushroom volute’. This pub deserves to succeed and have the support of the community . We are tourists otherwise we would be back. The chef is a true pro . So cmon locals ! Get behind this place !
The Hotel was undergoing repair work and there was no breakfast - or staff on site. That's a shame because it's a nice hotel/pub usually. We should have had more notice of the problems. Nevertheless, it's convenient for wonderful beaches and Dunstanburgh is a constant reminder of the dangers of foreign tourists.
We have just moved into the village and found this lovely little gem the blue bell, on entering the bar area there was a lovely roaring fire, which was very welcome as it was a very cold evening, we were greated by Peter, he was very friendly and made us feel very welcome. We were looking for somewhere to get takeaway food, Peter and his chef were very obliging, the menu is excellent and something on it for all tastes. While we waited for our food we had a drink, and it was a very good pint. We were introduced to some of the local people, who made us feel just as welcome as Peter and the chef did. We have to say the food was excellent, the presentation (eventhough it was in takeaway boxes) was very good, portion size top marks and definitely very good value. Would highly recommend a visit.
No breakfast is provided (December 2023) but recommendations given for nearby establishments. |Very helpful owner, keen to ensure our stay was a success. |We were walking the King Charles III England Coast Path - 3/4 mile away, coming off at Dunstanburgh Golf Club (ate breakfast there the next morning).
