A lovely quaint little hotel set in the beautiful little village of Lulworth. They have a very good menu that was well cooked.
They also have a reasonable selection of local beers to try.
We had an attic room so thought the views would be excellent. However our room was at the back of the hotel which meant that we had an excellent view of the cliff face which is only a couple of feet from the window. This was the only negative point but didn't spoil our stay.
It was really unwelcoming here. While we were waiting for our friend to come back to order food, a man came to our table to rush us to order with an excuse that our table is reserved for other guests, and then someone else came and said that the kitchen will have to take a lot of orders later even though the restaurant was half full for the whole time we were there. The food was rather disappointing, we had to constantly fight with flies while steak was chewy, seafood platter was average and linguine was bland.
We were there in wintertime and the heating in our room was not working. He fixed it with a very loud electric radiator which kept you up in the night.
The bar was nice and cozy.
Note that there is no ATM around so you might want to have some cash with you.
Heaven on Earth ! Beautiful place, amazing views, delicious food . Relaxing and friendly atmosphere. The owner and the staff made us feel very welcome, Thank you !
Fresh air, outstanding views outside the window, 2 minutes walk to the sea, what else could we ask for ? :) the best break away so far. I would rate 10 out of 5 stars ********** :) highly recommended, will definitely go back there soon !
We had the best time at Rudds / Bishops. Warm welcome and fascinating stories by Philip, the owner, delicious meal, wine and fish and 5stars services. We had an amazing time. Thank you so much. We will be back for a week-end. And also visit the second location in London.
Now called Rudds hotel
Fantastic location
Room and bathroom was very good
Food was lovely
Mr Rudd and all staff made us fell so welcome and nothing was to much trouble.
We go back again.
Truely a great place to stay.
Called in for a romantic dinner, booked earlier in the day. Turned up on time, the manager had no evidence of our booking and was more concerned with looking at the internet. The waiter was friendly but turned up in filthy jeans and shirt, looked like he'd been dragged through a hedge. Gave a drinks order that took 40 minutes to arrive!! Food order was eventually taken. This took an additional 30 minutes to arrive. There weren't many other guests. Mussels we're good but 1/3 we're closed so the edible portion was small. Chips and risotto were also very good. We were then left for ages by the disheveled waiter, eventually moved inside for coffee and cheese, again they didn't notice, the manager spent most of the time drinking large glasses of white wine behind the bar and arguing with the staff. Then took time to talk to us, or should I say insult us- asked us what we did- teachers -commented "so you don't work then". Cheese board was ok, but they didn't provide butter and grumbled when I asked for it. That took ages to come too. Was like Faulty Towers. My partner doesn't like complaining, so I didn't so as not to further ruin our evening. The one star is for the food. Otherwise it'd be zero. Completely disfunctional. Avoid.
Here's a list of issues I had with the room:
- The carpet has a massive stain by the wardrobe/window which is horrible
- The shower tray fills up with water when taking a shower
- The room was extremely cold (I had to use heaters to warm up myself) - when both heaters were on the fuse box started tripping. I had to go downstairs twice to ask the night porter (who was very nice on the first night) on duty to turn it back on.
- Furniture damaged - broken knob on chest of draws.
- Stains on curtains
- Keys got stuck in the lock multiple times
