Avoid this bakery - it is dire!
I recently visited this bakery to purchase bread and cakes. When I looked at the display, I mentioned that there were no chocolate eclairs or any other fresh cream cakes on sale. I also mentioned that the only cake on offer was a rather unappealing Date Slice.
The girl who served me explained that there was a problem with production, an explanation that I was more than happy to accept. However, I was somewhat taken aback by a rather abrupt and slightly aggressive man calling out from the back room, without looking at me face to face,
"Other customers have bought the cakes before you came in. We close in an hour."
The absence of an apology for the inconvenience was noticeable. He should have offered to report non availability of product lines to his managers so that supply and demand could be brought in to equilibrium in order to meet customers' expectations of purchasing cakes in a bakery. This is all the more galling because Baynes displays a notice inviting customers to enquire if their favourite pastry is not on display - a feeble and practically meaningless position for Baynes to take because if a pastry is not displayed at Leith, it is not available.
The Scot Mid Co-op is not a bakery but I have managed to purchase fresh cream cakes from their counter display as late as 8pm in the evening. The Scot- Mid Co-op deserves the privilege of my custom and Baynes would do well to emulate their customer service too.
A million times better than Greggs round the corner , steak bakes and steak pies to die for , and sausage rolls are mind blowingly good , if you see a baynes go in and treat yourself, staff in the great junction street branch are brilliant and always cheerful.
Nice tasty goods, the rolls can't be beaten
Friendly staff too
I understand the need for social distancing during this pandemic but if you're only going to allow 2 people in the shop, then may I suggest that you employ staff who can serve quickly and efficiently. I was kept waiting in the queue outside (in the rain) for 12 minutes while one member of staff served 2 customers before me. I've worked in customer service before and if I'd taken 12 minutes to serve just 2 people, I'd have been on notice. It's pretty poor service, especially if we're being made to wait outside in the rain.
I don't think I'll be spending anymore of my money in your establishments again.
Good taste, good price, good service
I have to say that Bayne's are very good I especially love there big strawberry tart its the size of a cake but they only do one a day so you have to get to the shop early enough to get it if you like a strawberry tart as much as I do you have to go and see for yourself
Queensferry road, Queue out the door , the two guys working like crazy, three other people in the back they can see its busy but are not serving. Poor
Compared to greggs this bakers is night and day, I park my van outside and the coffee is pouring before I even get inside, staff are really friendly, nothing is ever a bother, I wouldn't go anywhere else for my morning roll and coffee, I'm even partial to a wee coffee and cake at lunchtime too
