This place used to be great but I think it’s changed hands. No more iconic pie dinners. Food not great. Not bad but pretty tasteless. Came a long way for the Barnicles experience but left sad and disappointed.
Called in on Christmas Eve after finding two closer shops were either closed or unwilling to cook anything fresh. Not a problem here. Even though there was nothing in the warmer, they cooked fish and sausage fresh for me. They even gave me an extra box of chips and a free bottle of Coke. Amazing service. Thank you so much. We’ll be back soon!
The worst service. After waiting an hour after putting in the order and literally being the last person standing I enquired about my order. The gentleman behind the till then blamed me for not hearing him call for me. I had no indication of this, and when I challenged him I was given the reply of "I don't care". So, uncaring gentleman, this review is down to you. And to add insult to injury when I arrived home I was given mushy peas and not beans... what a day. If you want great service, reasonably priced fish & chips and a positive experience, literally go anywhere else.
Very enjoyable meal, friendly & helpful staff Tasty fish. Fresh chips. Good service. All round pleasant visit. Ideal for a family lunch. Gets busy around 1pm. had a queue forming at the door.
Disgusting fish & chips bought for me today !!! The chips were old and full of grease and the fish also full of grease ! And they had been cooked in old stinky fat it was rancid!! £8 wasted

After a day out in the dales looking forward to fish and chips and an easy tea. 10/08/20 Cannot say how disappointed 3 x fish and chips and a whole tray of chips too black to even serve up for 2 children. Then another plate of warm up chips too awful to eat. Fish were small and poor quality. If I could give zero stars I would.. how difficult is it to gauge what you will sell. Im sure people would rather wait for fresh than be dished warm ups. Never again.
Barnacle’s has always been great but after moving out of the area it’s been awhile since having fish and chips from here. I could now sum it up in one word... awful!
Chips where dry, fish was either too greasy or on one case very dry and the mushy peas where tasteless.
The young lady serving was great, but the guy serving us needs re-training (to put it politely). He had no understanding of food allergies and was very reluctant to ‘have to go upstairs to get the allergies book’. When asked about the allergy info on a couple of items we where told they where fine (no egg, dairy or soya) but when questioned (knowing that usually these can contain them) he then finally checked the ingredients to find out that they do in fact contain these allergens.
If you have allergies then either don’t eat from here or please really push for full details and not to just trust the staff. This could have ended up much worse if we didn’t really push for the information.
