Really enjoyed the food
For starters we got chicken masala puri and mixed only thing that wasn’t great was the veg pakro rest was lovely… for mains we got paneer saag 10/10 and achri chicken partner really enjoyed we will back service was fast and server was spot on and friendly
The food is a flavour filled taste bud explosion of fine Indian cuisine. If you want it a little hotter just ask and don’t forget the elephants ear nan bread. Staff are friendly and look after your every need, this truly is a gem amongst the back streets…
I tried their prawn masala with biryani rice and fish pakora, and 2 cups of tea. Portion is generous, I order one meal for two person. Service is also good.
Been here on numerous occasions and absolutely no complaints. We normally go at 4.30pm and get the small plate menu which is available daily from 12-5pm. However on this occasion we were given the a la carte menu, when we asked for the small plate menu, we were told it had to ordered at 4pm, I politely advised the staff member that they should alter their website to say that as when we made the booking we were advised that we could get the small plate menu. We went ahead and ordered from the main menu. Pakora arrived 5 pieces (£5.50), main course was nice. On finishing our meal a waiter promptly arrived and cleared our table,we were not offered a sweet menu or coffee/tea, As we were settling our bill, we noticed 2 waiters standing quite close on either side of our table and one waiter standing at the exit door,as we left the table one of the waiters proceeded to lift the payment then nodded to the waiter at the exit door who then moved away from the door and didn't even acknowledge us. This was not a pleasant experience for my colleague and I hence the poor rating.
We used Ashoka Ashton Lane as we had certain dietary requirements gluten free and vegan. But our last 3 or 4 Indian takeaways from here have been totally different to the previous one before it looked different and tasted different. From a restaurant you'd expect them to be working from a specific set of ingredients for each dish, but apparently not here, they seem to just wing it as they go. So if you're looking to be surprised by how your dish will look and taste then this is your place, it certainly won't be the same as last time. So we're finished with Ashoka and will try some places else in the West end.
We were somewhat disappointed with the standard of most of the food. While naans were hot, crisp and generously sized a dish of Chole was rancid. Lamb biryani was satisfactory as was a lamb curry. Everything was over spiced and too salty - an old trick intended to drive drink sales. Service was friendly and attentive though, which was nice.
Amazing plentiful presentation of food in a beautiful restaurant on a beautiful street. Excellent service as well. Highly recommend the juicy Dosas and the haggis pakoras as starters. The mains are waaaaaay bigger than I’m used to getting - I would say one serves two. So get two and take home leftovers! The Lamb sharab masti was especially delicious. The naans are also waaaaaay bigger than I’m used to and also way more flavorful and expertly baked. The garlic naan certainly doesn’t skimp on the garlic and the sweeter peshwari naan quickly became the highlight of the table. The table behind us ordered what I believe is the giant naan and if you’re going to try to impress somebody … order that. Excellent and unusual presentation! Many thanks to our server, Diksh, who was beyond hospitable and informative.
The staff were so attentive, present ,but not pushy. The cleanliness of the restaurant and the toilets just added to the experience. The assurance from the staff on the food choices reassured you of your choice. Good portions and quality throughout.
