The breakfast I had was not bad. It just felt too small for breakfast but I still loved it. Bothy companion and I became members of the clean plate club. I even finished the egg which is to say I never do anywhere else. It was delicious and fluffy. The bacon was the perfect amount of crispy and the French toast was delicious. The orange juice tasted a little weird but other than that great. Server was very attentive, nice, and helpful.
After we finished our really delicious lunch at April's Diner, Pam and I brought this big bad boy home to split for dinner later. We both love Chili Cheese Dogs, and I must to say, this one was epic, and entirely in a class all of its own. April's kitchen deep fries the dogs (something we've never had or even thought of) then smothers them with their own mouth wateringly delicious chili. That chili by itself would make a tasty meal, but combining a generous helping of it to a hot dog then adding cheese takes it clear over the top, to say the least.
We will for sure be making some return trips for those, either to eat there or bring home, this was in my opinion the best chili cheese dog I've ever had. A huge bang for the buck!
My husband and I stopped in for our first time on Saturday around 1pm. The restaurant was pretty empty, and there were about 3 or 4 servers working. We sat down at a booth in eye view of the window on the door that looked into the kitchen. We were pretty excited to try April's Diner. My husband was in the mood for breakfast, and I was leaning towards lunch, so it works out great that both are served. I had read that April was known for their "sticky fingers." So I decided to get their chicken fingers wrap. I imagined that since they are known for these great chicken fingers, I thought I would be getting hand cut hand breaded and tossed in the oh so popular Buffalo ranch sauce...nope To my utter disappointment, I could see through the window of the kitchen the fry cook pulling out FROZEN PREBREADED RUN OF THE MILL CHICKEN FINGERS. The oh so popular Buffalo ranch was CLEARLY store bought ranch dressing and store bought Buffalo sauce just mixed together. I feel if a restaurant PRIDES themselves on some kind of signature dish, you would at least think the dish wouldn't be frozen food. Fries also do not come included with the wrap those had to be purched separately but came surved in the same basket as my wrap. My husband ordered a large orange juice the waitress warned us " The large orange juice is $5." ???????? That's right she said a glass of orange juice is $5!! And it wasn't fresh squeezed or anything fancy like that.. He ordered the big breakfast it was like $13 or so. When she put the plate in front of him we were shocked that the plate for this "Big Breakfast" was the same size plate their cinnamon rolls are served on. We laughed thinking it was a joke! That this "Big Breakfast " was anything but, and for $13 it was not worth it at all. The waitress did a good job and she was polite. She could have kept her hands out of her hair, and my coffee full but that's just my opinion. The price of the food we ordered and were served was super high for what we got. We got nothing more then typical restaurant food. Nothing special or signature about it. I could have went to the grocery store and purchased everything we ordered and made it myself for less then we paid. My husband and I are all for supporting local businesses but when the prices are so high for mediocre food, it is hard to get on board with them. Unfortunately, we will not be returning unless we want to be overcharged for frozen food.
5/22/24 Worst place ever for service. Came in, sat down. Told grills were up and running. Brought coffee, water and tea, then took our order. Then totally ignored! Saw people come and go, waitresses walked by our table 5-6 times and never offered refills. Told our order would be up soon. Over an hour later still no food. Told we wanted to talk to mgr. She told us she would be right there, but waited on other people first. Finally came to see us. And she didn't know where our order was. We walked out after that. Third time of this treatment. We will NEVER back. back. We will never recommend the establishment to anyone.
All of the food was amazing! Service was wonderful as well. One tip for serving chicken and waffles, serve it on a plate! It was served like a chicken strip platter with a paper liner in a basket, it wasn’t very convenient, but not worth a complaint.
The Cinnamon Roll French Toast is one of those items that I was not expecting to see and when it was delivered it was exactly what I wanted it to look like. I should remember to order a fruit cup with it because it does need some color for contrast, but the flavour is absolutely perfect. I will probably always order this at least once a month if not once a week.
April's dinner felt like it was trying to be a hometown diner where you could feel comfortable to just take 'any seat ya want'. The menu had great options for apps, salads, burgers, and breakfasts. Our table had cheese curds for an app. We were there at noon for lunch/brunch. For entrees we ordered chicken and waffles, where they offer you a 'special sauce' but when you inquire on what it is the waitress says, "it's a secret, I can't tell you." We got it, it wasn't good to any of us at our table. We also had a tenderloin and their onion rings/crisps. My husband said it was good/ok. My son ordered sausage gravy on biscuits with eggs and hasbrowns. Other than needed some extra salt on everything, it was good, he said. I ordered the western burger. The burger didn't seem to be seasoned at all, and there wasn't enough barbecue sauce, so it was dry. It was disappointing, but we will be giving April's another chance. The staff seemed out of sorts, with loud staff and cook conversations directly next to our table. I really want to have more options in newton, so we will try it again.
Got my delivery order, 1st time getting food from this place... 100% on par authentic great food. Found my new favorite eatery in Newton
