Really nice fish and chips, haddock was skinned and boned brilliantly. Very traditional sea side chippy. Fish tasted nice and fresh and the batter was crisp, would definitely come back if I was in the area.
Staff were really friendly and welcoming.
We went to Allen's Saturday 22nd July for a meal. I ordered large cod and chips, jumbo sausage and chips, scampi and chips and a child's jumbo sausage and chips. The fish didn't look large and the scampi was tasteless very watery (under cooked) my wife didn't eat the scampi. A waitress came over and asked what was wrong with the scampi so my wife told her. After a few minutes the lady came back and refunded £10. The meal was over £45 and you had to pay for condiments, there was no garnish or lemon. We left dissatisfied and vowed never to return.
Good value for money, Wonderful staff, good for families young old anyone really. Lovely batter food delicious. Reminded me of good old fashioned hospitality with modern twists.
There's nothing wrong with that.
We came in at around 4.30pm and found very welcoming and friendly staff. We both had fish and chips with mushy peas, absolutely delicious. Fish was perfectly cooked with lovely crisp batter, good sized portions and very reasonable price. We were offered free refills of tea. Even though they were supposed to close at 5pm we were not rushed at all and other customers were welcomed in even after us. We've been to so many places where they don't want to serve near to closing time, so this was a welcome and refreshing change. We would definitely return.
Very small portion size for the price. Paid £2 for each soft drink to see it pouree out of an already opened large bottle. Also charged for the ketchup sachets! OK atmosphere, but far better value for money elsewhere. £50 for 2 adults and 3 kids meals, and we were still hungry afterwards due to the small portions.
Small portion for £9. Advertisement says cheaper outside but that's only for pensioners. Mushy peas extra as is tea and bread and butter. Tasted fine. Staff were friendly enough. Basic surroundings. I wouldn't rush back.
What a gem. Family of 4 got fish n chips, battered sausages, steak pie and peas. Not usually a fan of chunky chips but these were still crispy on the outside a and fluffy inside. Good sausages and big fluffy fish, amazing batter, really light.
Immaculately clean and decorated, I think the original diner style decor from 40 years ago, but still in perfect condition because the people who work there are so obviously proud of their place and their food. Rightly so. Really friendly and couldn’t do enough for us, topping up the tea.
We came in at an odd time during the afternoon - right after their daily special but not quite closing time yet. The inside looked quaint and gave an "aged diner" sort of vibe. Staff was lovely and helpful; they even let us order the special even though it was way past the schedule!
As for the food itself, the fish was wonderful. The batter soaked up a bit of oil but it was crunchy as expected, while the fish was fresh - firm and flaky. The chips were a bit weak, however. We will definitely be back again, and we may even try a full-sized portion next time.
