This place is huge! There are dining rooms adjacent to the bar area, up some stairs brings you to where private parties are reserved, then up a few more stairs there’s a large room with several tables. That is where you can attend Open Mic Comedy sessions every Monday night. Some were funny, some not as much but that’s to be expected. It would have been nice to have had more gals, but there was only one.
The food was delicious (photos are bad as the lights were down for Open Mic). I really liked the chicken tenders. The House Salad & Parmesan Fries were also good.
We had to order food at the upstairs bar. The wait staff was good about clearing the dishes and probably would have brought our food to us but we were checking on it as it came out. The beers are big and there were some interesting choices. The grapefruit drink was refreshing.
Street parking on the side roads is easier to find.
This was a cool place to stop. Went on a Friday during the day and it was pretty dead. A lot of people walked up, looked in, thought it was closed and kept going. Service was fine. A little on the slow side. Food was okay too. Good beer list with lots of local and German beers. Prices were good too for the portions of everything you get.
Had a good experience overall. The price of drinks was very good for the area. Cool decor and friendly staff.
Cons were how loud the live band was and no transparency with their tipping system—the default is a 20% tip but they include that with your check and then ask for an additional tip (I apparently tipped an extra 5% on top of the 20% included in my check). My two $5 margaritas ended up costing $34 with how much I accidentally tipped????
This place is just awesome. The pretzels are delicious and the grapefruit raddler with vodka hit the spot. I am not a big beer drinker like my friends and so the radler was perfect for someone like me and I highly recommend it. The live band was fun and we danced around the tables. Our server Keelee (forgive me if I misspelled that) was so kind and attentive. It was a busy night but she did great and we were a very chill group just enjoying the music and each other's company. We will definitely keep coming back especially if they keep booking great bands. I wish there was more space on the floor for dancing but we did pretty good just staying around our table.
Update: will provide additional reviews but this time of the rooftop experience when I visit in a couple of weeks.
Great little Biergarten in the heart of Old Town Alexandria. Plenty of beer options and the decor makes you feel like you are in Bavaria instead of Virginia. Great selection of beers and apparently food as well, though I have yet to eat here. Helles, lagers, pilsners, Weißbier..they got it all, even the elusive Kristalweizen! The rooftop bar is also a neat place to hang when it's open. Service was great and the bartenders are super friendly. Highly recommend!
The food & drinks were super good and the portions were HUGE! The place was definitely super crowded with the St Patrick’s Day parade so we shared a table with another couple. The system to order at the table was missing a few items that were present on the menu so a server had to take our order.
A server also spilled fried & sauce on my boyfriend’s lap and proceeded to start wiping off for him before being stopped by another server- which was a funny experience looking back. They did give us free german chocolate cake because of everything and we really appreciated that!
They also had live music but the restaurant was super cute and decorated very nicely- definitely some good insta worthy spots!
Cool little spot on King Street. It’s got a rooftop area that’s a great spot to hang out on a warm day. Beers are great, and so is the food! I really liked their Schnitzel.
A big pro for this place is that we were seated immediately on a Friday night on King Street without having made reservations. Otherwise the food was good, as long as you are careful what to order. For a biergarten, some of the items on the menu can raise some eyebrows like tacos for example. I ordered the Super salad which was this quinoa blop in the middle of some whole lettuce leaves - and the quinoa was undercooked. I just couldn't eat it , and ordered next a bratwurst with pickled vegetables - that was delicious, much better. My husband has debreziner on a bun and it was good. Basically, for the sausages and the beer it is a good place, but beware of the rest of the menu. The waitress was friendly and fast.
