I took the Aurora Train from Anchorage to Fairbanks in January and it was really nice. We had great views of Denali and saw lots of wildlife along the way. Would highly recommend in winter or summer alike.
Just got off the phone with the brilliant, pleasant Christopher. I have a cruise in July 2024 with the whole family (grandkids treat) and my wife and I have the flexibikity to get there early so began looking at add ons. Friend suggested fly into Fairbanks and take train to Anchorage for cruise. Scoped out the route and options and called Alaska RR Corp, cold call, and was blessed to have Christopher pick up. He spent a good time as we laid out the route (and besides handling soup to nuts from departure day one to arrival day five in Anchorage he made great suggestions on the best located hotels at each end. He also picked up (my wife and I are both turning 65 before our first senior citizen trip) that we qualify for senior citizen pricing and he reminded me of AAA benefits. All this before the bookings open - this weekend - so waiting to see but I know I am in good hands. Trip of a lifetime aided by a very unique staff member. Alaska RR is lucky to have such quslity, brand ambassadors for sure. Can hardly wait.
This is NOT the depot for the passenger train. It is located at 1031 Alaska Railroad Depot Rd. You would think they could put the address in the confirmation letter.
They keep the lights on in the train and it's hard to take photos. It goes very slow and I just fell asleep. If you want a real experience, spend the extra 100$ and rent a car for a week. You can drive to Fairbanks and beyond and take your time sight seeing and stop places to take pictures of you choose
Totally worth it to experience the train from Anchorage to Fairbanks. The service was excellent.
Boarded the Alaska Railroad here for the return trip to Anchorage. A STUNNING ride thru some of the finest wilderness on earth. Very nice clean and comfortable trip!
The passenger train was an awesome experience that my daughter and I thoroughly enjoyed. I'd recommend taking the opportunity to take a trip on the passenger trains.
I love to visit and ride the train. I wish the train would do what you're railroad does pick up people take them to town
