Ah Lien owned by a small Taiwanese family may close by the end of this month due to slow business. This is one of the best hot pots and probably the last authentic Taiwanese hot pot in SoCal. The soup broth is tasty and authentic to Taiwanese flavors. They have a high quality and vast selection of meats. The service is fast & efficient as they are very quick with getting your orders. The price point may be a bit high compared to shabu shabu or AYCE places, but their quality is top notch. I've been a long time customer and I really do hope the community would come out and support this small business & the family one last time!
Authentic Taiwanese hotpot with reasonable prices. My go-to is their half and half pot, half spicy (mala) and half sour cabbage. The best combination! Both came with tofu, so good. (Note: two soup bases would be charged around $14 per person, yes, they charge per person)
All the hotpot ingredients are pretty fresh. Also, meat quality are good. Would recommend getting their spare ribs(排骨酥), tempura, duck blood to experience the true flavors of Taiwanese hotpot. Bonus points: you can do half order to try as many as you want!!!
Overall, it’s a yummy Taiwanese hotpot place, and we love this place. Highly recommend.

One of the only Taiwanese spicy hot pot place left in SG Valley.
The interior is a bit dated but it's clean. Staffs takes the order right away and food is served quickly.
The flavor of the hot pot was amazing. We got the half & half soup base. Half spicy and half regular. If you cannot take too much spicy then let the server know so they can dialdown the spice level.
The dinner was so good. All four of us are so full and satisfied. We will be back!
You don't want to miss this authentic Taiwanese spicy hot pot. Best in California. Hands down. For a truly unforgettable hot pot experience, look no further. From the moment you step inside, you're transported to a world of culinary delight. Prepare to be wowed by the taste of food and the exceptional service, both of which deserve rave reviews.
This is the most authentic Taiwanese Mala hot pot I had in the U.S., said my white husband.????.
He is not wrong. I haven't found another place in LA area like Ah Lien. Most of the Mala hot pot is really oily(Chinese style), but this one has a great flavor and not oily.
Don't get me wrong, this pot has chili oil too but not greasy. The vegetables soakes up the chili oil which makes it very tasty, and also spicy.
Ah Lien offers many side dishes, drinks to complement the hot pot.
There are other soup bases as well.
We picked the "yuan-yang" style (the pot has a divider) but picked Mala as the soup base for both sides. My husband love lamb and I can't even stand the smell. Yuan-yang style is perfect, no con"lamb"ination in my broth, said my funny husband.
The services are great. The owner actually told us that we ordered too much meat for just the two of us. I like this. He could have just serve and charged us but he decided to tell us and save us some money and minimize food waste too. Thank you.
We traveled 40 minutes one way to Ah Lien each time and the drive was always worth it. You could take the left over home too! Get some meat from H-Mart or 99 ranch, plus some vegetables, shrimp or anything you want. You could make another meal out of it.
* The yuan-yang pot originally intended with one side is Mala hot pot and the other side is non-spicy.
If you are craving some authentic and tasty Mala hot pot, Ah-Lien is the place you want to visit. Hope you enjoy as much as I did
This Taiwanese hot pot place is full of traditional dish like duck blood jelly , deep fried short ribs, deep fried taro , baby corn …..
Owner was a nice old man trying to give customer best quality foods. He said he will be retiring at the end of the year :(
Better visit by the end of 2022!
Really good mala soup base. Authentic Taiwanese hotpot
