This was hands down the best eye doctor experience I have had. Everyone is super kind and knowledgeable. I get very nervous when I go to any kind of doctor and they made me feel so comfortable and explained everything to me. I would definitely recommend them!
Accent Vision Specialists in Santa Fe was a wonderful experience. The facility is clean and bright, the receptionists were friendly and efficient, the wait was minimal, and my eye exam was thorough along with clear knowledgeable explanations. I felt well taken care of and highly recommend Accent Vision Specialists for eye health care.
Just had a horrible, horrible experience with the business staff at Accent Vision Specialists in Santa Fe, NM. The Dr., Dr. Thibodeau, was great overall, my mom loved him. The staff handling insurance and business side on the other hand were atrocious. First, they didn't seem to understand what insurances they took or did not or for what when I called to make the appointment and checked in. My mom, the patient has primary and secondary insurance both with vision coverage. No doctor took her primary for the eye exam I was told at check in. Some doctors took only her secondary for the "eye exam" some did not. Only to find out AFTER the eye exam at the check out counter that her Doctor only took the secondary insurance for the refraction portion of the eye exam and not any medical portion which they decided they need to bill it as. Fortunately, the primary insurance picked up most of that. But when I complained about the other portion and asked to talk to the insurance company myself before paying that and to be billed for it, the staff got very aggressive and combative with me insisting that I pay it immediately. And when the office manager got involved it got even worse with her pushing paperwork in front of me insisting they were right about the balance after insurance (which I simply said I wanted to check on my own before paying) and then accusing me of being disrespectful when I pushed the paperwork back. They made me feel held hostage at the counter until I handed over payment in full. When I asked if they would have called the police if I had not paid right then and there, the manager got defensive and even more aggressive. Nightmare experience, my elderly mother standing back watching the whole encounter in horror.
The staff are professional and competent, and they work efficiently so there usually isn't a long waiting time during the appointment. My only feedback for improvement is that Dr. Tachau would benefit from taking a refresher course in being more multi culturally sensitive. He should stop asking his female patients if they have been "a good girl" because it's just not appropriate anymore.
When I couldn't get in to see a general doctor after a sudden eye issue, it was recommended I try to see an Ophthalmologist. As a newly established patient, I called AV and was treated very kindly when I asked if their office had an ophthalmologist. I was told no but it was recommended to see their "highly skilled" Dr. Tachau. I graciously accepted a same-day appt, showed up 15 minutes early, and was asked if I'd scheduled online as my appt. couldn't be found. I was told not a problem, have a seat, and wait to be seen. After a 30 minute wait I inquired as to how much longer I might wait and was told they were waiting for an exam room to open up. 1.5 hours later I was taken to an exam room by a very kind assistant who took info. on why I was there, "urgent visit for swollen eye", given initial exam and told to wait for Dr. Tachau. 10 minutes later my OD, Dr. Isquierdo, walked in saying my check-in sheet was put in her file, and asked why I was there. I went over all again including I'd called and was told Dr. Tachau was whom I should see. She said she could get him or she could help me. I chose her so as not to wait any longer. She did a minimal exam and diagnosed me with an allergy from face cream I've used for months. Unfortunately, I didn't question it. I didn't ask why only one eye would be affected. I didn't ask how long I should give it to heal. I wasn't told. I was prescribed an ointment and followed the instructions given. Within the next two days my eye got worse. The following business day I tried calling Accent Vision only to get a message saying the party I was trying to reach couldn't take calls at that time and try again later then disconnected the call and hung up on me. I tried several times throughout the morning, same result.
After sending photos to and checking in with my primary care doctor it was recommended I go to Urgent Care or the ER. I took a trip to Urgent Care, was diagnosed with a Stye, and referred to an Ophthalmologist to find I am allergic to the ointment that was prescribed by Dr. Isquierdo and I have a Stye. I am understanding of the fact we don't always get it right but after my experience with a Disorganized Office, No Follow-Up (not even my ability to follow-up by calling their office) and Wrong Diagnosis, I won't be going back.
Dr. Hamashige is knowledgeable, personable, and professional. I have trusted him for years before he came to Accent Vision. His new assistant, Charlie, is efficient, smart as a tack, and warm. She is destined for a career in medicine.
The worst experience I have ever had and have been wearing contact lenses for over 40 years. Do yourself a huge favor and go anywhere but here. The front office staff are incompetent and rude. The medical process to have my Duette lenses properly checked and fitted after purchasing them was non-existent. In addition, I had ordered and paid for two pairs, received only one, and 4 months later am told that they would "get back to me" about refunding my Amex for the lenses never provided. My credit card company is dealing with them and getting the money refunded. I have moved on to a more credible and professional Doctor and staff.
I had a very good experience at Accent Vision. Each staff member was friendly and competent and my exam process was seamless and thorough. The office has a calm and inviting atmosphere and all communication was clear and consistent throughout the entire process. They were able to cut my lenses on-site, so I received my glasses quickly as well. I definitely recommend Accent Vision to anyone needing these services.
