Fascinating thought provoking place, all the lovely volunteers we spoke to are very passionate about the local history, there is So much ancient history in this region. There's Lots of pictures and diagrams and literature to read to help understand a little more the pictish people.
These were incredible
The diagrams and explanations really brought them to life
Gorgeous views of the Glens
Toilet left open for visitors in free car park...
Check out the stone in the grave yard and typical Church of Scotland kirk
Interesting to see, however the last stone was a bit tricky to find so we gave up with that one. I'd say it's easier to park up and walk to them, but we were too lazy for that but driving made it a bit trickier! Very narrow roads so take it easy and be careful cause some people still drive fairly fast on them. But interesting to see and no fees or paying for parking needed so that's a plus!
Marvelous example of Pictish stones. It’s amazing that you can touch something that is thousands of years old. Good signage explaining the stones, but getting to each of the stones is challenging, ie crossing and walking down roads. If you are close… take a quick detour to see these stones.
Now admittedly this one is a little niche - if you like standing stones, it's 5 out of 5. There are 3 outside to see - don't miss the one in the church. What bbc iplayer The Art that Made us episode 1 to see what it's about. There's a very small but fab installation in a church hall by the car park. If you want to stretch your legs it's a great place to do it.
Nothing that I would go out my way for, but was passing through so took a look. They are cool, but nothing special. The car park is in some community hall type complex, looks like a house, but it isn’t. Only go if your going that way.
Nice to visit if you are in the neighborhood. It is just a short walk to the church where you also will find a stone. The gate is (probably) closes but you can enter the area around the church and visit the stone.
There’s only two pictish stones but they are very nice, specially one of them, in the cemetery of the church. One with battle and horses motives, another, a Christian cross. The the countryside you visit by the way is so beautiful..We enjoyed the visit
