First time dining at ABC Cocina, and the first impression started off a little shaky. My friend and I had a 530pm reservation and walked in and stepped to the side because the host was taking care of a couple of people who had just arrived before we did.
So, while we were waiting for her to finish, a three people group came up on the other side to wait as well. So after she finished taking care of the people before us, she turned to the three group party and asked how can she helped them.
Now, this is when my mind begins to wonder. I know she saw us come in and step to side, waiting.
The other group wasn't even there when we arrived. Graciously, the older white lady in the group said to her (host), I believe they were here before us waiting.
I let her know we had reservations, and while she checked, I turned to the lady and said, "Thank you."
Now, in that moment, we looked at each other, and both understood without saying a word. What had just happened.
So as she takes us to our table, she sits us next to two gentlemen in the right-hand corner. So now, I'm thinking all these tables are free, why sit us here. Maybe the seating is based on the number of people from reservations.
Also, the seat was shaky as well as the table. I let my waitress know, and she took the seat away and fixed the table.
Now, from this point on, everything was excellent.
The servers here were amazing, attentive, polite, and friendly. We had at least 5 to 6 servers back and forth at our table, making sure everything was ok with food, water, and drinks.
My rankings from what we had beef tacos#1. It was the best tasting beef I ever had in a taco, amazing. #2 calamari, perfectly seasoned crispy skin outside and tender inside with the tasty pickled onions and sauce. #3 chicken tacos perfectly seasoned crispy skin outside, tender inside and flavorful. I would like maybe something else added in taco, like the beef one.
#4 the mushrooms, never had these types of mushrooms before. Great flavor and nice texture with the cheese added and their hot sauce on the the table put this dish over the top.
#5 Spring pea empanada was different but tasted good, hot, and cheesy. #6 guacamole was fresh and tasted good. I never had guacamole made this way before, and chips were crisp. #7 Heart of Palm Salad was good and fresh. Just could have been a little more on the plate.
I had one fresh beet juice, and we also had a few basil margaritas. Overall, the food, drinks, servers, and the two gentlemen we sat next to made our experience delightful and fun.
Too expensive for this concept. Service was very good. The quality of the food was disappointing. Chairs crammed into a corner in front of the window are not sturdy and the table wobbles
Out of the abc line of restaurants in this area, I found this to be the least exciting one. I tried the tuna tartare, arroz con pollo, and churros.
The tuna was kind of… dull? It was still pretty fresh, but all the flavors kind of muddled together. Also, the tuna looked like it was smashed or something, which I guess made it soft to the bite, but I found it soft to the point of being almost mushy, which was unappetizing.
The arroz con pollo was rather unremarkable. Yes, the chicken was very tender. Yes, the skin was crispy. But the rice was also on the verge of mushy (sensing a theme here), and there didn’t really seem to be anything else with the dish to liven it up. I got a little tired of spooning the chicken rice mash into my mouth. Also, there was hot sauce, but it was very mild for a Mexican restaurant, which was a bit sad.
The churros were fine. They were quite tasty, even, and I really enjoyed the melted chocolate it came with. However, the churros also crumbled easily, rather than staying crisp, so by the end I could have used a spoon to fish out the bits that broke off into the chocolate sauce.
All in all, if you want Mexican food, there are plenty of places in the city with way more lively dishes, especially if you’re going to be paying these prices.
Was strolling down the street and came across this beautiful restaurant by JG. I stopped by for a quick bite during brunch. The kind host directed me to the bar where I enjoyed my meal. Overall, a really nice experience, cool atmosphere, and good food. I wish the Huevos Rancheros were a bigger portion and a little warmer. I look forward to coming back here with my friends.
We were really looking forward to a healthy meal but we were greeted with a menu that could barely be classified as healthy. All the chicken dishes were fried. Our server was very pleasant but the chicken rice took 30 mine to bring out (we were told it would be 20) and my guests completed their main courses as they watched me eat mine. Finally, when it came to settling the bill, we had to wait again before someone noticed that our credit card was placed. Not a great experience by NY standards.
Very nice place with a bunch of different tapas. Everything is a bit pricey, but the atmosphere is very nice and the food is solid. They also do a great job getting food out of the kitchen so you won't wait long if you're getting another round of food.
A great tapas type place. We ordered 5 different small plates for two of us with two bottles of water. Total price (without gratuity) came to about $190.00 - not bad.
Good flavor, unique recipes and good service.
Nice vibe. Sat at the bar - kind of basic all around. Cocktails were expensive and sounded good but were nothing special - def would not do that again. I’ve eaten here and that was delicious - would do that again.
