It sneaks up on you a bit, but there's lots of parking despite being conveniently located to breweries and eateries if you walk from a restaurant to see it while you visit one of the college campuses or just stop by to see the water. This is definitely a lesser known attraction minutes from Lake Champlain and many of the other fun things to do around Vermont whether you're a tourist or local. It's luckily one of the few places that doesn't close around 6 pm on a week day, it's open 24/7, so try to go to where you need to go before it closes if you're running short on time.
This is literally one of those tourist places that you go to, look at it for 30 seconds, snap a picture, and leave. It reminds me of the National lampoons vacation part "or did you not want to see the world's 2nd largest ball of twine?"
Is this worth a tip out of your way to see? ABSOLUTELY NOT
Is this worth a stop if you're in the area? Yeah, I guess.
Might be a little cooler after hitting some of the local breweries.
A clever monument to the pre-digital world and the home/office of the past! As you view the monument in person, just imagine how many filing cabinets now reside in your smart phone, laptop, pad, and desktop! Millions of trees saved and more spacious homes and offices! No doubt, Smithsonian will visit Burlington, VT very soon, and move this monument to DC! FIVE STARS...
Stop or drive by. Is a must. Great park, breweries and Burton are all nearby.
The world's tallest filing cabinet is overrated but still pretty cool. It is just a bunch of filing cabinets stacked on top of each other and stuck together. Still impressive… I wouldn't go out of my way to see it though.
You will definitely be surprised when you see this! It's one of those things that will make you go "huh, that's interesting" and it is!
I think it's the most unassuming piece of sculpture you will see, and the story behind it is definitely worth a read - a commentary on the bureaucratic and legal delays concerning since 1965, legend has it.
I live nearby. Do I go look it often? No, except accidentally or out of the corner of my eye when I go the grocery store opposite. Should you go see it? Absolutely!
Lots of road construction so be careful. It would be nice to have a plaque or something explaining the significance, if any, to this. There is not much around it so this is a very quick stop with a few parking spots around it.
Whoever says this is not worth making the trip for just to see a giant filing cabinet, is WRONG. I've seen sculptures in Italy and this is still one of the most beautiful pieces of art I've ever seen. A filing cabinet? In the middle of a random parking lot? Are you kidding me? Why would you not make a special trip just to see this. I drove 3 hours one way on a Sunday after wanting to see this thing for TWO YEARS and left with my expectations EXCEEDED. Not only did I get to see a bunch of filing cabinets stacked on top of each other for no reason, but I also got to go to 5 different breweries in the area because Vermont is like the cooler older brother to NH that has just about 20 breweries within a 5 mile radius. (I'm exaggerating that part. There is a lot though). Make the trip. Go see the big filing cabinet and hit some breweries on the way back.
