Our stay here was completely ruined by housekeeping going through our belongings while we were out and the disappointing customer service which followed. ||||On day 3 of our 4 night stay, we came back in the afternoon and noticed that our backpack had been moved. Upon closer inspection, we realised that ||the outer zips were open and the things inside including our document holder were also open. Luckily we checked and no valuables had been taken but we felt horrified that our possessions were rifled through and were anxious that something less obvious had been taken.||||Another concern was that we did have a few bank cards hidden and were worried that whoever had been through our stuff could have easily taken a picture of these to use at a later date. We therefore cancelled all of these and had to pay for new ones. From this point onward we did not feel comfortable both leaving the hotel room at the same time which ruined our last 2 days/nights in Chiang Rai.||||We went down to reception and explained that we could tell that our bag had been rummaged through and asked to see the CCTV footage. It showed that about 15 minutes after we went out that day, housekeeping went in and out of our room for 5 minutes despite not cleaning anything. The receptionist apologized and said that they would discuss it with us and management the next day which we later found out would be over a phone call, not an in person meeting, which we felt undermined the severity of the situation. ||||The next morning, we went down to reception at 10am as agreed but as we were walking down, we saw the woman who went through our belongings working as if all was normal. ||||We spent the next 3 hours at the reception desk speaking to various people including management on loudspeaker which was difficult for a number of reasons: the fact it was difficult to hear one another over the phone, the awkwardness of guests coming up to the hotel desk throughout and the very obvious language barrier made even more difficult via the phone (we do appreciate that this is not the hotel staff’s fault although at some point we did speak to someone with a very strong level of English who could have mediated the conversation).||||Management did apologise for what had happened and said that they were firing the woman so we asked why she was still working upstairs. They agreed that we could talk to her as we wanted clarity on whether anything had actually been taken but she claimed that she hadn’t been through the bag and was changing our bin, which wasn’t true as our bin still had the days rubbish in it. Eventually we saw her leave and management again told us she was fired but management should have been there in person to facilitate the conversation with the housekeeper as it was very awkward. ||||We then re-brought up the topic of a refund and how we felt that for ruining 2 nights of our stay, they should compensate us with a refund. After some back and forth they agreed to this and refunded 1 night on booking.com and gave us 1 night in cash which we were happy with as this covered the cost of the replacement travel bank cards. After finally receiving the cash, I then asked where to leave the room key when we check out early the next day and they then said they only agreed to 2 nights of refund as they thought we were leaving that day despite them not having explaied this precondition of the refund offer. ||||As we were leaving at ~5am the next day to fly, and were drained from the 3 hour conversation we just didn’t have the energy to pack up all of our belongings and leave the hotel, so gave them back their 1 night’s cash refund money.||||The day after we checked out they did email us a very short & generic apology letter which although a nice thought was quite frankly too little too late. Overall we felt very let down by the hotel and felt that management should have been present in person to: apologise to us, discuss the issue alongside the housekeeper and discuss the matter of a refund.
Nice, open-plan cafe with plenty of space and working wifi. Coffee and breakfast are really good. Spent a few days working here. Would love to come back anytime.
Very good coffee served in a cozy, open-air house with good views of the street. Ideal for those pretending to work remotely. The mystery is how such a spacious café survives with so little apparent trade. The Porsche parked out back suggests this coffee may be a labor of love.
So far, this seems to be the best place in town to sit and work. There is a nice breeze and a beautiful view. I really appreciate the variety of chairs and tables, so you can find what fits and is most comfortable for you and your size and shape. There is no fee to use the space or the Wi-Fi, but the sign at the power plugs says 20 baht per hour. Note that the plugs are all 2-prong, so bring an adapter if your charger is grounded.
I will be back to try the food, but the Thai tea I had was perfection.
