We had a bit of a disastrous visit to be fair, I expected better given it was only 1.30 ish
Ordered two hot chocolates with cream but they had ran out of cream.
Ordered soup but they had ran out.
Ordered a baked potato with Welsh rarebit topping, the potato was very under cooked and really cold and hard. They did change it no problem for a tuna melt which was nice but my third choice.
I was offered a refund for the difference but it was a faff so I didn't want the hassle.
I was given a completed loyalty card for a free drink on our next visit but I'm not sure there will be a next time.
Additional Update: 21/10/23
Well it's been a month since our last visit and I'm a little disappointed. I've knocked another star off since my last review. After having an "absolute bargain" lunch with my husband, we decided to treat ourselves again to the Quiche, Chips and Salad only to find that it's now £9.50 per person, instead of the £6.80 last time. I really hope this price increase had nothing to do with my favourable comments (see below). Portion size in my opinion seemed a little less than before but I can't be totally sure. However, last time it was a bargain at £6.80 and this time it's definitely not for £9.50. I work in a coffee shop myself and our quiche (larger than yours) with salad and a good sized pot of potato salad or coleslaw sells at £7.95. I understand pricing will go up due to food increases and electric etc but we're talking eggs and potatoes here, not steak. Perhaps the £2.70 rise is to help go towards buying some new chair cushions?
Old Review:
We've come here several times, for coffee and cakes mostly. Today we had quiche, chips and salad and at £6.80 it's an absolute bargain. Quiche was a reasonable size and warm. Chips hot and plenty, even the salad looked colourful and presented nicely with a balsamic dressing. Cold drinks available and we were offered ice and straws. No air conditioning unlike the store downstairs which was a shame but a minor detail. Only downside was that some of the chair cushions are a little grubby and worn. Can't understand why this place isn't busier than it is.
Really nice and pleasant café to pass the time in. Staff are really friendly and greet you with a smile, and the food is lovely too and reasonably priced considering House of Fraser is a posh store. Drinks are reasonably priced too the pot of tea for one is nice. Will definitely call again.
Very extensive menu for a department store cafe. Food freshly cooked to order and always delicious. Food and drinks brought to your table in a timely manner with friendly and helpful staff. A very pleasant little cafe (always has been).
The toilets need upgrading (mens toilets are tiny) but that is the responsibility of House of Fraser.
Absolutely appalling! The whole cafe area needs a huge upgrade. Despite there being two staff working behind the counter only one seemed to have any idea how to treat customers! Both females had very long hair which was loose and falling over crockery and food. One kept coughing over everything and wiped the insides of cups out with a dirty cloth!!! We had ordered and paid for two sandwiches and two drinks, the worker of the two females brought our drinks and was excellent when dealing with other customers her interaction was caring and professional. However the other female seemed to do nothing! After 40 minutes waiting for our sandwiches we asked for a refund as we could not wait any longer only to find out that the dark haired female who had taken our order and our money had not bothered to put the order through to the kitchen!!!! We said we would be complaining and the fair haired female offered to provide her name for us to report but she was not the one who made the mistake so that seemed very unfair!!! We came away thinking one female was carrying the workload of two! We will be reporting this but we may also contact environmental health as it really does not give an impression of a hygenic eating establishment
Not been to Lincoln recently and decided to return to the cafe in House of Fraser that we use to frequent often.
Was severely disappointed.
We ordered ham, egg and chips as the lady said it was a good helping.
The ham was tasteless, the eggs rubberised and the chips sparse and cool.
This used to be a lovely café, but has become a place to avoid. We had a poor experience in December but gave the benefit of the doubt because it's a very busy time in retail. However, our visit today has ensured that we will always go elsewhere in future. Despite being lunchtime, the café was almost empty. Cash only. No one came to the till for quite some time and when I was finally served it was not worth the wait. No decaf, no glasses for canned soft drinks, did not put cream on the hot chocolate, and despite very clearly ordering skimmed milk (which I could see was available), my coffee was made with the semi skimmed that was already on the counter. Appeared to be one staff member running the entire café. You can see right into the kitchen and not once did I see them wash their hands between jobs (handling money, making drinks, sweeping floors and preparing food).
Very poor experience, very disappointed.
Absolutely disgusting the place needs a good clean. Ordered a cappuccino came out more like a flat white and cold at that the scone was rock hard. The tables was all dirty and still had pots on. If you can’t staff it don’t open up. Will not be going again.
Don’t expect a reply seem to only reply to the good reviews which is few and far between..
