A wet Monday eve in Jan. The landlord and wife were perfectly amenable. Beautifully cooked fish chips and peas were delicious. Local Welsh ale lovely. Quirky pub with classic rock music playing in the background. Certainly not a pub for those with their noses in the air.
We stayed in the car park in our motorhome and had a meal here. I had fish and chips. It was absolutely lovely. Piping hot and very tasty. I generally remove the batter from fish and chips as its often soggy. This was thin, crisp and delicious. My peas were sweet and the chips crisp and hot. My fish was a really good fillet so my husband had to help me. Husband had scampi and chips and thoroughly enjoyed it. My cider was lovely and my husbsnd really liked his local beer. We would definitely come again.
Lovely local pub, great pub food when we have eaten, and friendly staff.
Very nice basic pub food. Rock music playing in background. Place is quirky but nice.
Grouchy, unwelcoming, miserable, don't bother. I feel like I have to leave a review if only to save someone the very unwelcoming "service with a snarl" approach we got today here. (and if the owner is not the middle aged lady behind the bar this Sunday 20th Aug lunchtime, then to let the owner know to urgently retrain). Once I'd ordered the drinks and food I just wanted to leave. The position of the pub is great, the food ok too though fairly slow. I know we all have a bad day sometimes, but looking at the reviews on here, I now see it doesn't seem to be an infrequent occurrence. Despite being pleasant to the bar lady on arrival and spending a not insignificant amount, it was as if everything was too much trouble, and your custom was an irritant. I didn't dare ask any details about the more substantial food, so stuck to the bar sandwiches. No smile, no thanks, no reply, odd muttering and shaking of the head at you, ignored at the bar with someone else there too. Honestly, I couldn't leave a tip except this one.... "get out of hospitality, it doesn't suit you!" I would not recommend this pub unfortunately.
“Don't bother! Go to the tea rooms
So my my husband and I decided to take our son and nephews for a pub lunch as a treat! What a disappointment! Thus place is filthy and the service is shocking! Staff don't acknowledge you when you are at the bar. Sure ee would have been greeted if we had 4 legs and a tail though! I can't say that I am overly picky but I will never go back. We felt so unwelcome. The lady that brought our utensils didn't say a word to us when she plonked them on the table. No offer of any thing else nor did she ask if we were happy with the food. We ordered 3 kids meals. Very basic chips and chicken nuggets and burger and chips then hubby had sausage egg and chips. Again very basic. Cheap frozen chips and cheap sausages. This place could be a gold mime. It's in a lovely position and has lots of space and character but its filthy and the hospitality is shocking. A welcoming smile, some acknowledgment, respect for their pauimg customers and a deep clean would make a huge difference. There are 2 lovely little cafes across the road thay do afternoon teas and will be going back there

We ordered the seafood and meat gumbo. Unfortunately, awful. But it wasn’t just the food that was a let down.
The seafood gumbo was lukewarm with prawns the size of peas. The white fish and haddock had simply disintegrated. I’m sorry to say that the broth was nothing more than watery stock. Very disappointing for £14. My partner ate half of the meat gumbo out of pure hunger, but I gave up after two mouthfuls.
The most disappointing part for us was the service. No acknowledgement of the plate being returned full, and we really do not like to complain but felt it was only right to raise the fact that the food was lukewarm and I was unable to enjoy any of it - we received a smirk and a shrug of the shoulders before walking off. Which obviously made us feel angry and so incredibly disappointed that we’d just wasted £40 and left hungry.
Why is it acceptable to take peoples money, serve mediocre food, and provide a substandard service? Times are hard and peoples are spending hard earned money! Don’t take custom for granted. So incredibly disappointing
Small pub but good selection of drinks. Nice draft cider. Only ordered starters / snacks but was quite tasty and good service.
