The roadside location is good with spacious inner parking lot. The inside has a pleasant, soothing ambience with added cleanliness. Wayside is not a high end resto, but it's "goodies" in itself. In particular, "Wayside Special" got my taste. So, preferably, I would come back when given the chance to be in Montpelier again.
If I ever own a diner, this would be a good start. The crowd is easy going, food is good enough and a short way before 8am. I would change the cup to the classic style though
The food is okie but I would try the pancake next time. My Canadian bacon with egg is so so. I wish diner would change up a little and use sourdough bread. The steak is a little rough but hey it’s under $15.
Service is quick and very friendly. They refil my coffee multiple times and that is worth the 5 stars.
Ambiance is clean traditional diner.
Decent food, typical diner. I did have a hair under my toast but they took it off the bill. the pancake had pure maple syrup for no extra charge that might be typical in northern vt. Price was good and looked like they were trying to keep the place clean

5 stars across the board! I asked if I could have my fish sandwich broiled instead of fried. The waitress said sure no problem right away. She said she could make it happen. That was how she handled it all. She was very friendly and knowledgeable about their menu.
The food was fantastic. It's a bakery so the sandwich buns were great. The sweet potato tots were fantastic. The pie was great. The entire experience was great.
Portions were very generous and the prices were very reasonable. Service was good too. We did find a hair in two dishes we ordered and the restaurant compensated accordingly. I hope they enforce wearing hair nets because it’s unsettling to find hair twice.
The food was outstanding, to say the least. Sweet potato tots..OMG, so good. They took sweet potato and mixed in cream corn dipped in a light batter. Wow
Sloppy Joe I ate was hand-made, and if it wasn't, it sure tasted hand-made. They must have grandma in the kitchen cooking. It was definitely worth the detour. The wait staff was friendly and efficient.
good comfort food. mash and gravy is great. love the country combo. Great folks, atmosphere, parking, and portion sizes! those pancakes are almost bigger than me (7 ft tall Sasquatch)! i was thinking 2 meals had to fill me up but just one was enough cuz of those cakes. great place, will be back next week.
