First time we went to Watandar
Really fantastic food.
We had yogurt and shallot dip (this was tart and amazing) humus and hallomi salad for starters with their amazing home made out of the tandoori bread. Thin and crispy.
Then fantastic lamb and chicken mains. Meat was succulent and in truth we probably didn’t need the starters.
The chili sauce was epic!
Lovely service - minor point it could have been quicker but great addition to the high street.
We absolutely loved the food here. The Qabuli pilao was delicious and we both agreed it was the best one we’ve had in UK. It came with a side dish of okra and their home made green sauce was slightly tangy yet refreshing. Perfectly went with the lamb shank. We would definitely recommend you to try this place and they also do £5 lunch boxes lamb cubes with qabuli pilao if you’re on a budget. Customer service was amazing too, really friendly people.
We went to Watandar last night for Mother’s Day to explore Afghan food. We are originally Iranian so I was very curious to try our neighbour’s cuisine. And it did not disappoint!!!! Every single dish was more extraordinary than the other! The food was seasoned to perfection and every bite was heavenly!
The bread is made to order in a traditional oven which brought back smells from my childhood and transported me back to better times!
My absolute favourite was Boranie Bademjan. I don’t know what magic they used to make this dish so delicious, I could have had 30 of it!!
The koubideh was fantastic and my dish was Mantoo, traditional dumplings, and it was flavoured so beautifully with yogurt and spices, it melted in the mouth.
The desserts were also another blast of nostalgia, especially the faloudeh! The saffron ice cream was divine. The texture was spot on and not overly sweet or over scented. It was just right!
The staff were also very friendly and attentive and made us feel extremely welcomed.
I absolutely recommend this place. Complements to the chef and to the staff. We’ll be going back
Amazing food and great service. Honestly some of the best Afghan cuisine around. Dera Manana team Watandar. You’ve secured a repeat customer
Never having eaten Afghani food before I have no reference, but the aubergine starter with yoghurt and fresh naan bread followed by a main of a mixed platter was simply delicious. The terrible exterior gives this restaurant an underserved appearance of a typical cheap takeaway littering most of Rushey green. This place stands out and deserves the high reviews.
Best Afghani food to eat with family. Really gives you the original taste and all flavours it carries. Their nan is fresh and very tasty. Would love to visit again and again to taste more dishes. Lovely experience.
I recently had the pleasure of discovering Watandar, and I can't express how delighted I am to have found this hidden gem of an authentic Afghan restaurant. A warm and welcoming atmosphere, making it an excellent choice for families. The customer service is truly exceptional - the staff are incredibly attentive, making sure every need is met.
The culinary experience at Watandar is truly a treat. The highlight was the mixed platter, which was an absolute delight. The assortment of flavours and textures on the platter was a feast for the senses. To top it off, the accompanying chili green sauce was a revelation - its phenomenal taste added a perfect zing to the meal.
If you're on the lookout for an authentic Afghan dining experience that combines incredible flavors with impeccable customer service, I wholeheartedly recommend Watandar.
Not often I dish out 5 star food, service & atmosphere, but this is a bit of a south east London gem ???? me & some family were chancing some lunch as we had to visit Lewisham hospital, and stumbled upon this place. We were greeted warmly, and proceeded to order stuffed flatbreads for starters (made fresh on the spot), then had the borani dumplings (revelation, generously packed & packing so much flavour), lamb shank with sultana rice, vegetarian kidney beans with saffron rice & a chicken dish, subtly spiced oily delectable bites with another fresh made flatbread. We had soft drinks & pot of black tea, and paid a very reasonable sum of money for generous portions of insanely delicious food. We’ll be back!
Mohammed who was serving & cooking some of it was a real gentleman - go eat here & see for yourself!
tashakkor-e ziyād ????
and finally, Tories out!
