My departure schedule from Washington DC to New York at 11pm was cancelled. The guy at the station informed to me about the cancellation and help me out. I made a phone call to customer service and they send me an email with the link for re-schedule hopefully at 10pm same day. I already had paid for the seat and the accommodation was good. The bus left on time, was not too full so we choose any seat. The only concern about it is cleanliness, seat a little bit careless with some trash and the bathroom as well.
Worth visiting this historic station. It provide facilities for all way of public transport both intra-city and inter-state, except through water and air.
A review of the Megabus stop in Union Station and of Megabus... I’m actually writing this on a NYC-bound Megabus. It’s the cheapest way to get to NYC and offers multiple departures a day, including super early and super late. The reason I take these is that I dislike driving and the train is often too expensive for personal travel. The booking process via the site is easy and the bus is relatively clean, but don’t plan on using the bathroom. Paying an extra $4-6 for the reserved seating is worth it. I like sitting upstairs on the double-decker sometimes.
The DC bus stop is at the back of the far more fancy Amtrak terminal in Union Station. If you’re taking an Uber or can, make sure you tell them you’re going to the bus depot in the. back and they can drop you a lot closer than the regular Union Station entrance. It’s better organized than the NYC version and is covered which is great in the heat and the cold. There are no bathrooms or places to get food or water in the bus depot side. You need to hit the main terminal for that.
A huge station. Old traditional building structure and clean beautiful place.
Many shops in union station. Good for waiting time.
This is actually a decent bus station, at least by East Coast standards. The station occupies the entire top level of the Union Station terminal building and my only complaint is that it is open-air so you'll be exposed to all the elements while waiting for your bus. That said, there's a small indoor, temperature-controlled waiting area that has a small shelf filled with books that you can read while you wait. There are restrooms too, which are reasonably tidy, and the departure boards are updated frequently.
I read some really negative reviews before my trip and almost cancelled, but decided I'd see how it played out. I had a large bag and a book bag. Took the large bag and placed under the bus and I hopped aboard. The very front seats are very close to the front bulkhead. They felt like they were leaning forward. They were rather uncomfortable and barely bearable for the 4-hour ride to NYC.
We left at 6:03 for a 6pm departure, so nothing like other reviews have stated. We were scheduled for a 10:15pm arrival and arrived into the city around 10:30, so in reality, not too bad at all.
Couldn't connect to the WiFi, but did you the outlet, once I googled it and was able to locate where it was. There was a little bit of trash next to my seat, but nothing intimidating.
Overall, I'd use it again and it's very cheap. Where else can you get from DC to NYC for less than $15?
Mega Bus = mega POS. I chose this option over the Amtrak because of the significant price difference. Next time I will pay the extra for Amtrak. DC to NYC - our bus left 20 minutes late (no excuses or apologies), then broke down 4 blocks away from Union Station. After waiting in the middle of the street for about 10 minutes, it started up again. We then drove about another hour when it started raining and because the wipers were not in proper working condition, we had to pull over by a park and ride and wait 1.5 hrs for another bus. The driver was playing solitaire on her phone the whole time and not providing us with updates. Finally another bus came and they transferred everyone and the luggage. We were supposed to arrive @ Penn Station at 11:15pm but now it will be around 2am. Good times. Never will I ever take a bus in the USA again. On a positive, the outlets, AC, seat recliners and toilet are working.
