Large pub, just reopened.....plenty of parking, the Landlord was attentive and friendly as was the Landlady....early days but sure this will be a good pub. Will try the food soon
Large pub under new management...serving the local company....parking is easy and the local rail station is next door if you wish to pop into or from Minehead or other places.....ON A STEAM TRAIN
2 night stay with 2 dogs at a very reasonable price.||Really friendly staff who seem genuinely trying to please so cannot fault that. Also welcoming of dogs that has to be commended. The location is also superb next to washford station and the line runs alongside the pub and beer garden so if your holiday involves the west Somerset railway you cannot physically get closer - our room overlooked the station.||The room (room 4) was clean and pleasantly decorated with a bottle of water, tea (regular and lemon), instant coffee, hot chocolate, biscuits and a bottle of water (tap water in a Kilner bottle) along with cups and saucers and a pair of glasses. The bathroom was clean and the shower had excellent pressure and plentiful hot water. The towels were possibly past their first flush of youth but perfectly clean.||Food was generally good to excellent although we both didn’t take to their signature marinated chicken, it wasn’t inedible but in all honesty it just didn’t look all that appetising (golden crispy skin looks better than the translucent and limp skin it comes with), the marinade was too sweet and the meat tasted too salty so I’m unsure how this came about so we ate a bit then brought the rest up to our dogs. The chicken was cooked well and not dry at all so no cause to complain and we paid our bill but chalked it up to a poor choice on our parts - just not to our taste. A real shame as the BBQ wings and burgers we had the other night were outstanding and the anti pasti we shared before the chicken was perfectly nice. Breakfast was delicious however both mornings.||Unfortunately the bed in room 4 is not great with the divan collapsing in places under the thin mattress and the room wasn’t serviced in our stay. We only got 1 toilet roll provided and 2 (and a half used one) tiny tubes of shampoo aswell as a cash and carry own brand hand pump antibacterial soap. The outside of the building is now looking rather scruffy with peeling paint and rotting windows and the interior of the bar and dining area isn’t wearing its years well either. Without wishing to be rude or cause offence the landlord and landlady while very pleasant tend to sit with their friends and leave the barman to do everything if he’s there or just pop behind the bar to serve if he’s not - it’s their pub and they can run it as they wish however when a guest enters a pub with no one behind the bar, dirty glasses and bottles all over the bar and the owners are sat down drinking with their friends and rolling cigarettes or outside with them smoking and the landlord is using foul language it doesn’t create the most professional image. I gather it changed hands about a year or so ago and you get the impression from review sites and pictures the previous owner did things differently shall we say and now, sadly, the place has a feeling like something that’s on a very gradual slide so for that reason I’m not sure we’d return even though we were satisfied for our money on this occasion.
Liked · The location was perfect for visiting friends nearby. The breakfast was nothing special but adequate. The lady serving was polite and friendly. free parking was a bonus||||Disliked. It looks tired and dated, the exterior has paint peeling and is in need of some TLC. We stayed in room 4 which seemed ok, the furniture matched and we were provided with a bottle of water (which tasted rank), hot chocolate and a kettle which needed descaling. The bathroom was a dated avocado colour with toothpaste marks from the previous guest on the windowsill. The shower was powerful enough but the shower closet was tiny and claustrophobic. The toilet paper was the cheapest quality and the complimentary toiletries didn’t smell great. The bath mat had seen better days and was frayed at the edges. The bed was low, the mattress was thin and like a concrete block, no springs. The pillows were so thin and of the cheapest quality. An incredibly uncomfortable stay and certainly would not recommend. I contacted the owner afterwards to say how uncomfortable the mattress was and his attitude was that it’s a matter of personal preference and he’s never had complaints before, although trip advisor tells a different story and I wish I had checked their reviews before booking. I stayed at a different guest house the night before, paid only £60 and it was pure luxury compared to this place. our booking confirmation said checkout at 12 noon but housekeeping knocked the door at 11.10 and asked when we were leaving.
This is a clean and friendly Inn. The service is always quick and polite. Dogs are welcome. We visited here on Sunday for the carvery. The food was excellent, and service was good. We have had lunches and meals here before, but the carvery was something special. Will be back for another!
We had the best weekend. The room was clean and had all amenities. I loved the add of the cafetiere. The shower was nice and easy to use. The bed was the most comfiest bed I have slept on! All the staff were welcoming, friendly and nothing was too much for them. The food was delicious as well. Thank you for giving us both a fun, relaxed and chilled weekend.
A nice place. Lovely large room with a goid shower but turn the heating off! Well cooked breakfast with pleasant host. But. We arrived at 7pm on a Sunday evening. Check in was easy and quick. Came back into the bar with our friends who were also staying at 8 to be tolc that the bar should have been closed an hour earlier but as they were waiting for another guest we could have a drink. Another round was bought and we assumed we could sit in the bar for the evening. Half a hour later the landlady(?) came over and told us we had to leave as they were locking the place up for the night. Our request to remain where we were was denied and we were told in no uncertain terms that we would have to leave. Several words were exchanged! In the end , to be fair, we were given the keys to a larger bedroom along with a couple if bottles of wine and we enjoyed what was left of the evening. If you are going to close that early especially to guests then you should say so at the booking stage. Its not unreasonable to expect to have a drink is it? Having said all this, it all worked out in the end but we probably would have stayed somewhere else.
Fantastic pub, food was amazing and a good selection of drinks. Beer garden with views of the railway (6ft away) but don't worry of you staying in the hotel as the last train was before 6pm and after 10am
Large car park as we got our big van parked. Rooms were clean and the bed was comfortable, we will definitely be back in the future.
As a bonus the vintage steam railway station is literally 30ft away from the car park, hop on and visit half of the Somerset.
