Booked a cottage across the road from the pub for that reason .Popped in in the afternoon to check it out and they had no beer and the kitchen was closed . Went in the cafe next door for food the cafe owner turns out was a previous landlord of the pub . Had a nice basic but very well cooked meal in there instead.
Loved this pub hab new years eve night in here 6 of us the young lad behind the bar looked after us all night we had a fantastic night and a bit rough in the morning will definitely visit again
It needs the villagers to get behind the young man that's taken it on to make it successful. He is a very friendly young man and deserves the a good go
Large, dog friendly pub. Reasonable choice of drinks and bar snacks available.
After a second trip with friends last week I feel I need to say that it was a pleasant experience and we really enjoyed ourselves . But unfortunately this weekend there was a large amount of underage drinking Happening without being queried whilst myself and my wife were there on Saturday . All in all a good pint and it seems the toilets are being refurbed .
Update April 2023. Went for an evening drink with a friend. Very quiet and lifeless in both bar and lounge. Previous landlord and chef Andy has moved across the road to the cafe.
We left quite quickly.
Update January 2020. Just been back yet again for our regular Sunday lunch. Beautiful tender tasty beef and lamb with all the trimmings, Yorkshire pudding, lovely gravy and excellent vegetables at the most reasonable price we've come across.
The landlord is also the cook and knows his business. Comfortable saloon bar with a warm fire. Service was quick and friendly, but you order at the bar and get your own knives and forks from the sideboard. Keep it up Andy, you’re doing a great job!
2 years ago 2018.First class 10 oz steak juicy, tender and tasty! A plateful to remember. Lovely hand cut chips and sweet garden peas. All for £13. 50. Great British cooking!
The Waggon and Horses is a pleasant, traditional pub and easy to find as it is along the main road through the village and quite close to the church. There is no beer garden as such but there is an outside seating area with picnic tables. On the sunny afternoon that my (adult) son and I visited it was doing a fairly brisk trade. Be warned that parking can be a bit of an issue. It's unfair to judge a place by a single brief visit but on this occasion, though the staff were friendly and efficient in serving us, both my son's beer and my soft drink with ice were on the warm side. As a consequence we moved on fairly quickly. Other customers however did seem perfectly happy.
Visited today as we were in Lincoln buying prom dresses. Didn't get the warmest of welcomes from the start and found that it was only serving dinners on a Sunday priced at 10.95 each for adults and 5.95 for children. We ordered 4 adults and 1 child's. I was shocked when they all came out looking all exactly the same, no difference in size to say the price difference and it was not a good shock. Also all 5 of us had to share the veg and gravy. We decided not to complain at the sight of the dinners and to just eat them but as my nice put her veg on the plate she noticed that there were hairs all around the edge so I did return the dinner . When they brought it back out it had no veg on and as all the other veg had gone we asked for more veg and gravy for it and was told no we couldn't have any more. No apology of any kind. We certainly will not be revisiting this pub. Absolutely disgusting food and service and shocking price for what we got!!! I would add a photo if it was possible to show people what they are getting
