Best KPortal Reviews
Drove by one day and saw a long line outside the door waiting to order, so we came back and tried it. Now we know why they have such a long line. The food is so flavorful! The server is very helpful in explaining how to order and recommending her favorite dish. The vibe is good, welcoming, and authentic. The restaurant is on the smaller side, not recommended for a big family to hang out for hours.
I have had Venalonzo's on my list of wanting to try for a while. You have to love a really good taco and I had heard that they had some of the best. So we headed up to Venalonzo's on a Friday night to grab some great food.
The restaurant is an odd spot, but that is what helps make it special. Tucked away off the main street in the corner of an odd strip mall-like building, it is a more intimate restaurant, but they utilize all of their space.
I got the taco plate with two tacos, rice, and beans. For my tacos, I chose to get carnitas and al pastor. Both tacos tasted amazing. The pork was excellent on both and they had all the right toppings. With just a little bit of the red hot sauce, I was in business. The beans were amazingly good as well making the plate a good deal.
We also for three quesabirria. These were classic slow-roasted beef in a tortilla with melted cheese and a side of consume on the side. These were some of the best I have had.
We also got two margaritas which were OK, but not their specialty in my opinion, but they were made a great was to enjoy the tacos.
The staff were all very nice and efficient. The line was pretty long when we arrived and I was surprised at just how fast it moved. They give you a number to take to your table, and they bring everything to you, so be sure a tip them at the counter.
Wow! Great food, good prices. A tiny spot in the thick of it that serves great flavor with a cost that doesn't make one feel they didn't get what they paid for.
Been there twice so far in the past month and happily will be returning more.
Breakfast burritos are great! Large for what you get and flavored well. I got chorizo the last visit and...yup...good!
Went for lunch a few days later and the place was packed to the gills with people. Standing room only. Lunch burrito was not a let down. Flavored well, portions were good. (As with any foods, more protein is always nice to have vs fillers).
I gave 3 stars on atmosphere for the following: One time the music was just too loud and obnoxious and didn't allow discussion with staff or people real well. Another was very busy and it seems they could arrange a better layout for foot traffic and seated patrons. Great to be busy, but a redo on layout could work better.
Overall, it's a winner. Been there several times and finally chose to give them a review.
Keep up the good work and good food.
I will continue to visit.
I have to say I didn't believe the hype about this place but it lived up to the top 100 list for Denver. It was packed and the word is out. We order taco plates and they tasted great. I also tried a quseabirria taco and let's just say it was a game changer. We also got churros and they were hot fresh and amazing. We are going back tomorrow for a second round.
As a Mexican American who has eaten tons of tacos in Mexico and south Texas, my wife and I stopped by and weren't impressed. The quesabirria tacos were the best thing we had, and I would rate those an 8.5 out of 10. The Barbacoa tacos were a 4 out of 10 as the meat wasn't good and the corn tortilla was hard, and I couldn't eat it. The asada tacos were a 3 out of 10 as the meat was tough, and the corn tortilla was hard, similar to the barbacoa taco. The chicken quesadilla was a 7 out of 10. My wife said it wasn't anything special. The horchata tasted gritty and powdery and was horrible (1 out of 10). The margarita was drinkable but not enjoyable (4 out of 10). The tres leches Cake was a very thin slice for a little over $5, but tasted good (6 out of 10). I think the slice should be bigger for the price.
Favorite new Mexican spot in Denver. The food speaks for itself. Felt like authentic real Mexican food. It’s not the typical cheese drenched mush found elsewhere being sold to American peasants as Mexican food. Yet it’s priced very reasonably. The place was clean and nice and well organized. The food was hot and fresh and we ordered extra cuz it was so good. My favorite was the Torta. She had 6 tacos. We shared a chimichanga. The service was great. Check out the photos.
I'm thrilled to dish out the details of my recent adventure at Venalonzo Mexican Restaurant.
Step inside and get ready to be transported. This cozy spot might be small, but let me tell you, it's bursting with authentic charm. From the colorful decor to the welcoming vibes, every corner of this restaurant oozes with character, making it the perfect spot to enjoy some seriously good eats.
Now, let's talk about the star of the show: the food. First up, we've got the birria tacos. These bad boys are a game-changer, with tender meat and a flavor explosion that'll knock your socks off. And don't even get me started on the Asada fries – they're crispy, cheesy, and downright addictive. And just when you think you can't eat another bite, the Churro dessert comes along and steals the show. You won't want to skip dessert. The menu will make you want to choose plenty!
Margarita anyone? It's perfectly balanced, with just the right amount of kick to complement all those bold flavors. One sip, and you'll be hooked.
Keep in mind you do have to order first and then they bring the food out. Make sure to grab a table when you see one. First come on the tables. Venalonzo Mexican Restaurant is the real deal. So, head on over-you won't be disappointed.
Ya’ll know.. if it’s great… we be at it!
People are giving this place an extremely high rating, which I feel is a little more than this place deserves. I have been to a lot of Mexican restaurants around the state and even a few top ones in other states, so it is possible the people rating this haven't been exposed to much Mexican food.
With that being said, this place is not bad. In fact, for a casual Mexican restaurant (i.e. no waitstaff) it is one of the better ones I have been to. However, the food is pricey and for the quality you are getting I would not say it stands out enough to warrant a 5 star rating.
The salsa at the salsa stations was very mediocre. They give you two, a hot salsa and a guac-based one. The hot salsa was very smoky, which I thought was overkill. I enjoy a nice smoky flavor, but more as a background flavor (this is the main event). The guac-based one was very strong on the lime, which I didn't enjoy either because that's all I was tasting. The chips were decent (those are hard to mess up) but I have had much better complimentary chips and salsa from most sit-down restaurants (these I had to pay for). The pico de gallo was pretty good and had a very fresh taste, but didn't stand out as being one of the absolute best I have ever had.
The carnitas taco was pretty solid, but it was extremely small. I have never had a taco that small from a Mexican restaurant (the size was like one of the mini tacos you would get when they sell them in threes at American restaurants like Buffalo Wild Wings). I finished it in 2 or 3 bites, and it was $4 or $5.
The quesabirria taco was bigger and was the best thing I had. The dip that comes with it was also really good, although is a little much just for one taco. I would get it again if I was in the area, although it's not something I would go far out of my way for.
The chicken wings were also decent. The wings came up a bit dry, but the mango habanero taste was sweet. However, the mango habanero base was not hot at all. The smoky salsa at the salsa station is much hotter than the wing sauce (the salsa had me blowing my nose quite a few times, whereas the wings weren't even hot enough to activate my sinuses). I wouldn't be surprised if they used a generic prepackaged mango habanero sauce because it tasted similar to other mango habanero sauces I have had before. The fries were ok; I liked the seasoning they used on them but they weren't cooked crispy the way I like and they are the larger cut ones (I prefer thinner cut).
