Small diner. Food looked good and was plentiful...but lacked any flavor...some spices ans herbs would be a good addition. My waitress was on spot!
What a wonderful time at Van’s after visiting Marengo Caves. The food was delicious but their vegetarian options were very limited. The decor and ambiance was very relaxing and homey. The apples were amazing.
We love little Mom and Pop restaurants, and Van's is just that. I had a patty melt plater with onion rings. It was very good. I never get excited about cole slaw, but wow! It was excellent! If you happen to be in Marengo, reward yourself and stop in!
Great little restaurant right by the caves. I had the broasted chicken special and it was perfectly done. The fried mushrooms and pinto beans were great as well. You won't break the bank here, as the prices are reasonable. Portions are modest, but probably about right if you plan to do some hiking or canoeing around the area afterwards.
Our favorite locally owned spot for a quick little night alone. Excellent food! The cod fish and cooked carrots are my favorite ❤️
Van's is a local staple. The food is okay and worth what you pay for it, but it won't knock your socks off. It will, however, leave you satisfied with a good country fare meal. The wait staff tend to be underpaid so you should expect to tip well as part of your meal.
If you are a local, you should leave some time for talking to other locals at this watering hole, because you will likely see someone you know. If you are not a local, expect others to stop and stand at a table that isn't theirs and have a short chat.
The devour is quaint, the press are standout good, and parking is decent.
Had lunch here with some friends. I was excited to see chicken and dumplings on the menu. I was expecting some home cooking but it was not. The dumplings were definitely not homemade and I struggled to find much chicken among the dumplings. The green beans were tasty but appeared to have come right out of a can. The cornbread was very good just lightly sweet. The cabbage in the coleslaw was minced. The flavor was good but it didn't need to be chopped so finely.
They lose points for not serving breakfast all day. But you can't really beat them with a stick. Not to mention milkshakes and ice cream being seasonal only? I don't understand that either. The hash browns are wonderful.
