Nice panoramic view of downtown Pittsburgh and worth the trip. The drive up the mountain can be concerning, but it’s worth the time. There is a quaint shop that serves a nice cup of coffee across from the lookout platform.
Fantastic views of the city from Grandview Ave anytime of day or night. Showcasing the Pittsburgh Skyline and Downtown and surrounding areas. A beautiful spot to take pictures and take friends from out of town.
Must visit place on the Pittsburgh trip. Awesome views of the city specially at night time
Mesmerizing night view from the Upper Incline. Peaceful and serene!
An interesting ride up and down. Not much going on at the top other than eateries and a fabulous view of the city. One of the cars was modified to hold bicycles and wheelchairs. Very sad that what was once built for transportation reasons (to get workers down to where the jobs were) has now become a tourist attraction. I skipped the Duquesne Incline a bit west from this one.
Nice view of the city, bridges and rivers from the observation deck. The incline ride is $2.50 each way. It looks like fun. I heard 2 stories of the origin of this ride. The first version was that it was built to make it easier for mine workers to get up and down the hill. The second version was that the city was looking for a source of revenue and that many of the miners would rather hike up and down the hill than pay for the ride. So the ride operator hired people to dress up in scary costumes and hang out near the walking path to make people think the walking path was haunted. This supposedly increased ridership.
If you’re either in Pittsburgh or passing through this should not be missed. A truly special overlook that gives context not only to the city but also to the energy which makes Pittsburgh such a unique locale. Parking is easy so there is no excuse and the drive up the mountain makes you feel like you have been transported to the Mediterranean!
Just a short walk and street car ride from the Amtrak station, great way to use the 4 hour layover when connecting from The Pennsylvanian to the Capitol Limited
